Agreed, it's the only Jeep product as of right now that I would consider buying if it were out.

x2! Of course, the problem with the Wrangler is that it isn't family-friendly...no side crash protection and poorly designed rear seatback angle. BUT, as a weekend car or if you're single, the Wrangler Rubicon Diesel would rock!
I think the driver is most at risk. Can't remember, but I believe the passenger crash test ratings, front and rear, were rated amongst the average for its class.
To the OP: More diesel options make me happy. The initial cost premium for the motors rarely end in a positive fuel economy outcome in America, unfortunately, but hopefully as more become offered here it can help in changing that.

The front driver has a combo chest/head airbag that deploys from the side of the front seats. The rear seats have nothing. (No curtain airbags for obvious reason.) Although the current model removable side doors are more stout than the older models, i wonder how they are compared to a regular SUV/sedan door at protecting.
The past crash tests have been more positive simply because the Wrangler is higher than the average car...so, most of the impact hits the door sill. But, if a SUV T-bones it, you're screwed if you're in the back seat.

I doubt it's going to happen. There are too many EPA roadblocks in place. Hell the current CRD JK's are all made in USA but you can't order any parts let alone oil filters!
I have driven many CRD JK's and while it's a great engine it is horrible to off road even with gears. The turbo lag and how quick it kicks in makes it not fun at all.

Well you could purchase a jeep j8 from my company, jankel tactical systems and have a turbo disel engine and as far as safety well depends on what you want to spend... 80k and it will be bullet proof and take hits from grenades with a air filtration system that can drive in a blackout sand storm for 5 hours :cheers:
