The trip to GWNF the other week convinced me to cancel my preorder of the Passport Max and order the un-detectable Redline. Will be very nice to be able to leave my detector up in Va…

Will be installing the Escort Live direct wire kit in the next couple days…

Looks like the hose is going down at one point, I'd change that so that it's always going up, that way any gear oil that escapes will find its way back to the diff.

Nice job with the radar detector. I hate VA.

Direct wired the Escort Live cord. The remote module is bigger than the standard direct wire module, without Escort Live, and it won't fit in a switch blank, unfortunately. That said, I like this spot so far, as it is easily visible and accessible while driving. Depending on how much I use my iPhone with this, I may hide the module. Only time will tell…

Getting ready for some work on my brakes. Front pads and rotors need replacing and lines need bleeding.

Ordered raybestos 980160 rotors and ebc 7000 (DP71657) pads for the front (have oem rotors with ebc 6000 pads in rear).

Since the brakes need bleeding, I went ahead and ordered StopTech SS brake lines front and rear. Will be doing all this in the next couple weeks, hopefully…

Total cost of parts ordered: $345 (rotors 145, pads 92, lines 110).

Will update with install pics…

Radar detector switch looks great up there.

I'd love to lend a hand with brakes if you need help, let me know when you're gonna do them.

Thanks Zak! I actually cut the little rubber thing on either side so it is even more flush now. Also put a little electrical tape over the blue LED. Fit perfectly. Now I only see the alert lamp. Will only use the buttons when in DC/va so cops don't see me reaching for the detector…

Also, thanks for offering the help! I will likely tackle it Aug 10/11 or 17/18. Need to figure out what works. A buddy from my office wants to come help too. We can make an afternoon of wrenching and grilling and then go cool off at the pool…

Bought a Coby Kyros 7065 android tablet, an ODBII ELM Bluetooth adapter, dash mount and Torque Pro app.

Still getting used to it and trying to get at least stock numbers for HP (245) and Torque (282) but got somewhat close yesterday.

I need to find a good flat road where I can just floor it from a stop and see what I get…

Tablet - $100
ODBII adapter - $23
Dash mount - $30

Bringing my truck back to life. We had our first child in Jan 2021 and bought a newer highlander in preparation for that. Given all the working from home with COVID, I had no need to really drive my truck. I let it sit for over a year with only driving it a couple of time. Finally decided to get it back in order. The odometer is at 168k and counting.

It's going to cost quite a bit to get everything done but definitely cheaper than trading in for a new vehicle. I should be able to get another 100k out of it after everything is done.

Work done so far:
- New Battery
- New cat-back exhaust, swept to the side, and replaced downstream o2 sensor on bank 1. The stock had rusted through in a couple of places, a crack in the muffler and the pipe after the muffler fell off.
- All new fluids with flushes, etc - Diffs, T-case, tranny, power steering
- new weatherstripping for tailgate glass

Pending
- New Halo headlight housings to replace the current ones with moisture inside and bad weather sealing
- LED Headlights to replace the HIDs
- New leather covers for bottoms of front seats
- New cup holder/tray insert for rear armrest
- new tires
- Rear end link replacement (current ones are snapped)
- AC repair (condenser needs replacing, will likely have them replace compressor too when they rip the dash apart)
- repainting Skid Plates, steel crossbars and loadwarrior

possible / longer term
- replace the upstream O2 sensor on bank 1 since I still have the p0420 code
- passenger cv axle may need replacing
- new suspension. I have about 120k on the FJ setup
- Assuming I'll need new pads, rotors and calipers after all the rust and sitting. May have a seized caliper but not quite sure yet

I had been paused on going all-in with the rebuild, debating buying a newer Camry, BMW or Lexus sedan. Decided to at least take it into the shop to get estimates.

Driving it just felt like home, so I'm back to being all in!

Current estimate from the shop is $7,800 and covers:

- Front Pads, Rotors, and Calipers (seized caliper)
- Read Pads and Rotors
- Rear end links
- Passenger side CV axle
- Radiator hoses + fluid exchange
- Evaporator Core and Thermocouple
- 265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer AT3

AC Diagnostic charge was a whopping 500. Hoping there isn't a condenser issue too, we shall see.

All this will take my re-build cost up to a nice round $10k...part of me feels crazy for doing this but let's hope I don't regret it!

Once I get it back, I plan to get a new headunit with Apple CarPlay and a backup camera. I'm trying to get at least some upgrade out of all this work!

I will need to re-do the suspension as well, but I no longer have the means to do that on my own, so that may be pretty costly.
