you very well may have seen me there! I go to chipotle fairly often...

I just got back from bethany and my handheld wont charge so I'm stuck. I cant decide whether to try and get a battery for it to see if it will work or just cut my losses and install one of the midland's with a firestik and bandi mount...

No new mods, the t4r fund is receiving nothing right now. Got a generator for the storm/tailgates and one of those Redskins Tailgate Canopies, I'll have to post my pic later. I'll be bringing the generator and tv to tailgates once I get a new TV for it.

Too many other expenses to spend anything on my t4r right now. I'm still postponing changing my diffs, t-case and tranny fluid. I'm at 62.5k right now and don't want to go much furthur but I have to pay a whopping 280 to renew my registration this week.

Next on my list are the CB (hopefully in time for the October trip but we'll see) and a roof rack, load warrior or something, for tailgating.

Where are you current pics with the new wheels? You gotta start your own build thread soon!
 
If you decide to get a install a CB let me know, I'll probably pull the trigger and we can have a cb install party. I also want to get a police scanner but can't decide how to mount it.

That sucks about the hand held but I'm sure the generator and canopy will be a great tailgating setup. I changed the spark plugs and oil last weekend and am hoping to do the diffs this weekend. I have all the stuff and had to buy a 10mm allen and a 24 mm socket. There is always one more thing to buy.... or money to spend on registration, ouch! I have one of roof racks that mounts on top of the factory racks and not a big fan of the look. It doesn't have an extension which is the main issue but if I was going to spend the money over again I would save up for a gobi or something similar that replaces the stock rails. Especially since mine won't fit in the garage at work.

I'll get some pics up soon, I've had the wheels painted for a couple months now. It just doesn't look right without a lift.
 
thats exactly what finally pushed me to do the fj swap, the bigger tires just beg for a lift. It's going to look fantastic with the OME setup!

CB install party eh...I think I may need to order soon. I would much rather ensure I have my fluids all changed before our trip than the cb though so we'll see how it works out!

A good rack is fairly costly and the worry of not fitting into garages and such makes it hard to justify a hefty purchase. That rage rack was pretty good but like you said the lack of an extension is the main issue. I'll probably sell my snowboard rack and tailgate basket/rack thing to try and save up some money :)
 
I don't blame you, the diff fluids are definitely a priority. I want a CB but I doubt funds will allow it, especially since I want Duratracs before doing too much more offroading, the duelers suck!

Do you think you can do Rausch Oct 1/2? I'm hoping to make it.

I went with a Load Warrior and am very happy. I actually think the mega would look a little big but haven't seen it in person.

Originally won an eBay auction for a load warrior with extension that needed some tlc. Seller demanded more money for shipping when UPS shocked him with a $130 quote so I got a refund.

The next day I found this on Craigslist and took a 3 hour roundtrip to pick it up for 10 bucks more than I would have ended up paying for the load warrior with shipping. It also came with a Tire Carrier and 2 light brackets already mounted up.
 
Nice runner man. I have seen that truck around. Im in the Upper Marlboro area. I have a white 06sr5 that I'm slowly trying to mod. Go skins!

Good man! I told you it would fit better. I was going to offer up my load warrior to borrow just to prove it to you. Now driving 3 hours round trip probably cost you a tank of gas though.....what did you end up forking over?
 
Mpower, sorry for the LATE reply! Turns out I was wrong (and so was the guy who sold it to me). When measuring for a stretch net, I realized its a LoadWarrior.

I ended up snagging the rack with extension, tire carrier and 2 light brackets for $275! Outbid a jeep guy who started trashing the seller on jeep forums so I felt kinda bad.

Anyway, loving the rack and the tire carrier was very useful for Rausch creek the other weekend. I banged up my skids a bunch and have some all pro skids coming. Just got a cb radio also will hopefully be putting that in this weekend.

was trying to cut the tail light plastic but ended up snapping it, worked out pretty well actually. Mounted the door jamb mount (from firestik) inside the hatch channel. Doesnt get in the way of the hatch and is quite sturdy! It is grounded to a bolt on the hatch "bumper" like many others have done

wrapped around my Arkon mount is a survival bracelet from xskydivingdudex (Survival Bracelets Thread

I have the control box under the driver's seat with the power running up to the battery through a firewall gromet and the ground attached to a nut behind the "seat belt" panel. I did nothing "new" with the install apart from the mount so I didn't take more pictures of the install process.

Still need to fine-tune and take SWR readings now that I've added the spring, but very happy with it so far. I will be getting a 2ft red firestik II for the trail.

Been a while since I've done anything but have a few coming.

Swapped out my k&n for an aFe stage 2.

It sounds great! I liked the k&n a lot too. I think the aFe is slightly quieter except when you stomp on it and overall a slightly lower tone, likely due to the sealed box.

It seems more responsive but that's probably due to cleaning the throttle body since I had it all apart anyway. It was pretty dirty.

Ordered a URD MAF cal and will be putting that in along with the Kliv VSC off mod once everything comes in. Also have the new Escort Passport Max on the way and hope to hard wire the remote module in a blank switch, if it fits.

Yea I'm interested in talking with you about that when we meet up. I got the live hardwire kit which seems a bit bigger so I'm hoping I can find a good place for it.

oh yeah, that one is nice.

I only did it this way because I'm impatient and didn't want to order anything else/pay for it.

though if that fit in a blank it could be badass...

and messing with the blank to get the stupid PCB to fit took me probably 3 hours. Tons of fun :D
 
sweet! URD just called and asked me for my make/model/engine size and which intake/exhaust I have. They're loading the map on it now and then shipping it out! I'm glad I wont have to connect it to my computer to re-map it. Great attention to detail on URD's part! I'm sure re-programming would fine tune for my exact setup but at least it's coming pre-mapped for the components I have. Can't wait!

Not that bad of a job with the write-up. Most of my time was spent prepping for a few hours reading Daron-t4r's thread and others I found on X-runner and Tacoma forums. Labeled the plugs and stripped all the wires first then took a break, connected all the wires and taped up. Then lastly cut the ECU wire, connected to the MAF cal and taped those up. Stuck the URD unit up in the dash loosely for now. Re-connected the battery and started it up.

As with Daron-t4r, it died on the first start but then started right up the second time (no issues since). Before driving it, it was idling at 1500 rpm (as opposed to 1k before install) and in drive it dropped to 1k (as opposed to 600 before install). After driving down the block, it was back to normal.

I will hopefully have more to say after driving it a bit longer but for now, here are my thoughts.

I like it! From reading around, here's what I've found about it (I will try to confirm with Gadget after this and edit if necessary):

When driving, you're either in a closed loop or open loop. You start in closed loop and enter open loop with heavier acceleration or load (up hill or I'd guess wheeling or any driving that has more than normal resistance).

The URD MAF Cal unit will adjust the Air Fuel ratio in Open Loop mode only. The Stock ECU controls AFR in closed loop. That said, however, vehicles are tuned from the factory to calculate airflow based off the stock intake system. Installing a new intake changes all of that. In Closed Loop, the URD unit allows the ECU to calculate the AFR correctly, based on the new air flow.

With that, my observations so far are quicker throttle response, jumps into second faster than before and it really takes off when you get up around 3-4k rpm. Although it seems very similar to the initial benefits of adding an intake, I definitely feel like it enhances them fairly well. I went speeding around yesterday before the install and yea, it was quick and sounded good and shifted well but when I did the same after the install, I could definitely feel a difference in the seat of my pants.

Per Gaget@URD, I went back this morning and soldered all the connections because one coming loose could cause major problems. Tight spaces but not too hard. Felt like it took half the time of the original install yesterday.

Not sure I'm a fan of how they look. Might cause more concern for anxious passengers but they do what they're supposed to.
