I've comitted to buy a '96 Hilux Surf SSR-G, I'll get it sometime in February and I can't wait! 3.0L turbo diesel auto 4x4, has everything but the top-mount intercooler/sport hood and factory Recarro's. Are there many other Surf owners on here?

I had two Surfs, a 1997 SSR-x Limited 3.0 turbo diesel, and a 2000 SSR-G 3.0 turbo diesel intercooler. God I miss my Surfs! :(

Good luck!

Were you living abroad when you had your surf's, or how did you go about getting them into the US?

I had them when I was living in Peru. Both of them had the steering wheel changed over to the left. Getting them to the US is next to impossible which is why I had to sell them when I returned.

They need to be 25 years old to import into the US I thought, only 15 for Canada, lol.

Welcome aboard! Nice Surf BTW! Do you guys drive on the left hand side of the road in Canada?

We drive on the right hand side of the road, same as the rest of North America, lol. I've driven right hand drive cars before, and they can be a pain in the ass due to limited visibility for passing etc. I'm thinking because this truck will be higher off the ground, that kind of thing will be less of an issue. I'll just have to get out of the truck and go inside the restaurant as opposed to hitting the drive through, lol!

Nice surf, god I wish I had that turbo diesel. I like the color a lot too.

Around Corrales, I always see an old red Subaru outback that is right hand drive. Crazy old cat lady drives it.

Well my truck will hit the shores of BC on Feb. 2nd, and I'll be flying out to get it and drive it home the last week of Feb. by way of Las Vegas! Can't wait!:bluejump:

Did you have the steering wheels changed over? Was it pricey to do? Any pics of before/after?

If it was a economical enough option I'd love to pick up a surf like the OP and change it over. What a perfect truck that would be.

Congrats!

What a great way to get acquanted with your new wheels than a nice long drive. Enjoy and be sure to post pics of picking it up and along the drive home.

It will be RHD, and stay that way for the foreseeable future. Lots of work to PROPERLY switch it over I would assume (brake booster, steering rack, cut new holes in firewall, entire dash/switches, etc).

Really looking forward to the drive though. It's been about 10 years since I drove in the mountains!

Truck arrived at the port in Vancouver today! Got a call from the broker, trip to go fetch it is getting closer!:frog::frog::frog:
