Just did my timing belt, question before I start it up

I just did my timing belt and just got to throw the belts and coolant back in. I got all the marks lined up on the belt to the cams and crank pulley, how will I know if the timing is good? Can I use a timing light to check it?

if all the timing marks are lined up it should be fine

After you get the belt back on initially, then manually turn the engine over with a ratchet and socket 2 revolutions on the crank, and line the crank timing mark back up on TDC. If the cam marks are still lined up where they should be, then you are good to go. If not, then you need to loosen the belt and move the cam sprockets one way or the other until they are lined up to the marks.

It's best to check it this way before you put the timing covers back on.

A timing light is for checking the ignition timing (the timing of the spark plugs firing). The timing belt is related to "mechanical" timing (the timing of the intake and exhaust valves opening and closing in relation to the pistons going up and down). These are two totally different timings. You should have a good understanding those concepts.

I fired it up today, started first try. Drove around and don't have any leaks so far. That crank bolt kicked my butt!
