Just discovered water under my cargo area carpet!!

Ok, I wont have time to check it out as I'm leaving for holiday stuff, but under my Weathertech cargo liner my carpet is all wet. I'm guessing it must be coming off the tires and up through...somewhere.

Anyone have any thoughts?

You're gonna have to pull the rug up unless you left the rear window cracked when it rained.

When my rear cargo area got wet on bothe the right and left side closest to the rear hatch door... It was because I didn't put my end caps back on from the roof rack... I would start there and make sure the roof rack is kosher...

Otherwise in both my 4runners I sometimes noticed water on the TOP of my cargo cover... Like where the heck did it leak from??? Everything else was dry and there was no indication to where it dropped from...

Yep, my rear cargo area got wet from the roof rack, silicone all the screws and it was good.

What do you mean by silicone all the screws?

Mine is leaking too since I just replaced my broken endcaps. How do I silicone the screws? Just take the screw out, put some silicone down around where it threads into the roof and put the screw back in?

That's how it was done from the factory, I just put black RTV over the entire head of the screw though, makes it a pain if you ever have to take it off, but no leaks.

OK, cool, thanks. I'll pick some RTV up tomorrow morning, all mine is dried up... Hopefully that'll fix the issue. Lots of rain in the forecast here.

Ahh,interesting. So if it is the roof rack,wouldn't the water soak the headliner, or would it flow down the sides behind the plastic cladding and onto the floor?

The headliner backing is pretty water resistant, so it flows down the sides mostly, my headliner was pretty wet when i pulled it down to dry it out after sealing up the roof, I actually only noticed the leak because I kept seeing the occasional drop of water running down the rear quarter glass.

Has anyone tried teflon tape around the screws to prevent water getting through? Thought that might allow for easier screw removal..

Teflon tape might work. I used silicone, I made a mess, but it sure is sealed up good. I don't plan to remove that screw though. I'm sure I can still get it out if needed, but even if I needed to remove my WM rack I would just unbolt it and pull it straight off the roof and not even touch those screws.

Make sure the area above the cargo door seal is completely free of any debris - if there are any leaves or crud up there water won't drain properly down the sides of the hatch and water can leak through the seal, run down the inside of the hatch, and accumulate under any cargo liner you may have.

This stumped me for a while until I saw water dripping from the seal while it was raining. If water backs up it'll work through the seal and wind up on the carpet.

Ha! I just noticed this too. But it was coming in down by the brake pedal area but off to the side. I was in sandals and my foot was getting wet. I siliconed all the screws but i must have missed a spot. End caps were broken a bit. Ill have to check them out! I figured I would see the headliner get wet if I missed a spot. Guess not.

Check the drain tube on the drivers side is clipped into the flapper vent well.

Having this issue right now. The right rear side keeps leaking water in around the trunk seal even tho it's brand new. I had to get rid of the old seal because it was even rusted inside it, along the bottom area where it's installed. Did you find any solutions? Fall is back and now my trunk is super wet and I didn't even know. Thought I solved it...
