Just Got A 95; Have Few Questions

Just picked up a 1995 4 Runner SR5 Limited for 2500. Does have 170k on it however. Looks pretty solid, but with all those miles, i am a little nervous. Still, for the $ - seems like a decent deal?

Since I don't really know what has or hasn't been done maintenance-wise; is there anything i should do besides the basics: oil, atf & filter, diff. fluids. So that i can keep it running through (hopefully) a couple of winters.

Will pretty much just be my winter ride so i don't have to try & drive my mustang out in the snow like i did last year.

I will try & post some pics of it also.

First welcome aboard nice to see 2nd gen guys come on.

I would change all the fluids/lube/minor tune up and you should be good to go.

If your truck was well mantained 170K is not at the end of the line many see 250K+

post those pic's when you can.

another question.

truck has like 4-5 inches between top of tires and start of fender, currently has 31x10.50s on it. is this the stock tire size for these? is there normally that much of a gap in the wheel well?

looks like u could run bigger tires like a 33-10.50, or would there be a clearance/rubbing issue?

also another odd thing i've noticed is that the voltmeter is running way to the right almost next to the 18? is this normal for these vehicles?

finally, anyone have any tips on changing the plugs, i would like to do it myself; but not sure how big of a job it is to get to them?

I doubt 33's will fit. Spark plugs are a breeze, just buy a swivel socket bit to make the hard to reach plugs easier to change. Welcome to the club. I just bought mine and did everything that was mentioned. But my truck was a 90 with 170 kms on it.

No 33's would rub also you would see worse MPG and you should change the rear gears/speedo would be off. but to answer your question yes 31X10.5 did come as a opyion on uor 4runners. yes there is that much gap because the truck sits so high not because your tires are to small.

Yes the voltmeter does sit that far to the right and the oil pressure gauge seems to sit to low but it is fine.

And like nyceride said get a set of swival sockets that will make the plug change easy/just do one at a time and it's a breeze.

well, here's one for ya.

had this thing < a week & hit a deer on the way home from work.

damaged less than i figured it would have been; but still bad enough i spose.

would have been alot worse if it would not have had that big brush guard on the front, it did bend it back into the fender though. got the brush guard straightened back out; but not the fender of course.

also lost my center cap. can u still get those anywhere?

just glad i wasn't in the stang; prob. would have totalled it. lol

Wow the 4runner held up well. other then your fender the truck looks OK. Did you kill the damn thing. I hate dear the more they shoot the happier I am.

I have a 01 MR2 Spyder and am on SWpyder forum just last month a guy lost control of his Spyder to avoid a deer and hit a tree and killed his brother who was the passenger and he will be in the hospitl for months we were shocked.

I am in the spring going to get new rims you could have mine then if you have not found one by then. My stock rims I will give away on here also if some one wants them.

You could try Toyota they might still have them just remember the front one has the words "automatic locking hub" on it and the rear ones do not. If that matters to you.

Also try a salvage yard.

Or wait till march.
