just got me a new '12 T4R - have few questions

hi guys

what a chore having to deal with friggin' dealers! people don't call them stealers for no reason!

anywayz. i'm happy cuz i just got me '12 T4R SR5 - pretty basic one in terms of options but most of what i need i already have it in my smartphone so i'm fine. (GPS, Music storage, etc...)

i'm sure i can find all the answers i'm about to ask in this forum but if someone could answer the following questions, i would really appreciate it

1. i found USB port inside the globe box. does it take USB memory filled with MP3s? or does it take only ipod?

2. i test-drove 3 cars cuz i heard faint but noticible rapid clicking noise from the engine room. the salesperson, naturally played deaf and dumb on me but since all three cars had that noise, although somewhat in varying degree, i figured it's normal. upon further digging on google, it appears that the noise i heard might be fuel-injection noise (have no idea what it is though) and is normal. does that noise tend to go away as the engine breaks in? or does it stay pretty much the same? i thought mine sounded somewhat more severe cuz it's new-new and had only 7 miles on the odometer...

3. the manual recommends that i do 4WD at least 10 miles a month. i'm aware that SR5 lacks center diffetrential so 4WD in the dry-payment is a no-no. how do you guys deal with this requirement? do i have to take it offroad every month? or is it okay to engage the gear in 4WD if i find some straight, albeit dry, pavement?

just done reading the manual. the whole 700 pages of it

so USB port does take the USB memory. does anyone know what the max memory it takes? the manual says it takes XXXX number of files and folders but does not specify the capacity it would take.

(i'm mainly curious if it takes 16GB max or 32GB max)

and i would still like to know if it's okay to drive with 4WD engaged on the dry payment per manual requirement of 10 miles 4WD per month...

Hey, welcome to the forum. First off I have no clue on the USB in the glove box, sorry. As far as the 4x4, I thnk 10 miles is a stretch, you just want to go a few ,iles to keep everything lubed up. I do it about once a quarter. Living in Denver you should nt have to worry about in the winter, and during summer, i you can find a straight road every 3 months, you will be fine.

16/32 gb are both fine, I drive in 4hi straight road dry pavement no problems.

I'm happy to answer your questions, but only if you attempt to use some sort of proper capitalization in the future.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who sees it this way (or if you realize this), but it's terribly difficult to read a post like yours (substituting "cuz" for "because" doesn't really help either). :ybrick:

On to your questions:

1. USB with MP3s will work
2. The clicking noise is normal. If it's REALLY loud then it's a problem, but every fuel injected engine has this sound.
3. Dry pavement really isn't the issue. It's cornering that's the problem. Do you really need to go 10 miles? Probably not. However, you do need to engage it every now and then to keep things in optimal working order. You bought a 4WD truck. Use it!

The answer to number 2 is "it's normal noise for roller rockered heads" which the new dual vvt-i design went to in 2010.Has nothing to do with fuel injection which ALL vehicles have had for the last 25 years and are not this noisy.

Just google " noisy roller rockers" and roller rocker design reduces friction and wear is a good and much more expensive option . Kudos to the Toyota engineers for upgrading to them in our new motors! Roller rocker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
