I got these for the 2006 Stock 4Runner, after having BFG Radial Long Trails. I am hopeful that these will perform a bit better off road. What are your experiences/thoughts on the off-road performance of these tires?

PS: I am going to be headed from Lake City, CO to Ouray, CO over Engineer Pass with them in about two weeks.

I used to have those tires. Offroad they did pretty good. The only concern I had with them was the sidewalls seemed thin. On road they did good too with the exception of concrete bridges on the interstate. The tires would track the grooves in the concrete like crazy. They seemed sure footed in the snow and ice as well.

I put them on a BMW X5 and they worked very well through 5 New England winters before we moved to the Show Me! state. I replaced them last year with another set and have decided to shoe the 4Runner with them when needed. A very good tire in all conditions for my style of driving but you do get a little road noise.

Ive never had them on my 4Runners, but i know people that have. Theyve been pleased with them, but there was a time when they were getting old, ready for replacement and a piece of electrical wiring (very VERY thin wire) pushed right thru the sidewall.
When he brought it to the local tire guy, they had a large jar on the counter full of the different objects theyve taken out of popped tires. These items ranged in size from a thorn off a rose bush all the way up to a railroad spike. Needless to say, my buddy was shamed when they had to TAPE the small strand of wire to the side of that jar. He currently holds the record for "Most Pathetic Pop".

I originally was debating on Bridgestone Revo or Yokohama Geolander A/T.
Someone else had a 4th Generation & said they are horrible in wet weather & in snow condition.
With that first hand experience on his end, I went w/ the Revos instead.
My next non-offroading tire will be Michelin LTX2.

I tried out my Yoko's when new in 12" of fresh snow when I got the first set (2003) and they were terrific in snow. Last winter we were snowed in for four days as our gravel highway was covered in 4' drifts. Once the county had plowed we had to go grocery shopping and the new Yoko's handled the 10" of snow/ice left by the plow without any problems.
I have also driven in downpours and there were no problems whatsoever even with deep pooling on the roads.

I have them and love them. I drove them through a very snowy winter in Connecticut, and several times through snow storms on my way from JFK airport to central Connecticut. Each time I was awestruck by how grippy and secure they were even in the harshest conditions. On dry summer pavement they are very good -- not noticeably loud and great even at fast highway speeds. I think you made a great choice.
I bought a set from Discount Tire here in Denver to replace the stock Dunlops.
Honestly... I returned them within ten days and was given a full replacement. Went back to Michelins!
I found the set I had to be very loose, weaving slightly, couldn't keep a track on the highway. The sidewalls appeared to be fairly 'thin' as someone mentioned.
Some folks swear by these tires and others like 'em and some like me didn't care for 'em.
YMMV but since you asked, I thought I'd share a real-life experience with 'em.
Hope your set is better! Have fun up on the high pass roads... I'm heading to the Grenadiers soon, SW of Rio Grande Reservoir. Very remote there!

So...how's the Yoks Gelandar AT-S compared to BFG Radial Long Trails in Highway driving?
I know BFG Radial Long Trails are smooth and quiet at highway speed, but I love the aggressive looks of the geolandar ats.
I'll probably buy these yoks as they are resonably priced at my local discount tire store. Bad timing for me, no local tire shop have sale. I need new tires next week..I can not trust a 3+ yrs old BFG R Long Trails( though it has treads left) for a 1K mi road trip/vacation.

I think you will get more miles out of them than bfg's My father in law has geolanders ats on his truck and they have 70K and still plenty of tread left. Also, I think they have tripple sidewalls.
I had them on a Jeep Cherokee (about 500 lbs lighter vehicle) and really liked them but, they do have more flex in the sidewalls which made the vehicle feel lazier when steering. (I can believe someone would not like them and have them removed because of this) My girlfriend didn't like driving the Jeep anymore with the Geolanders on it. The flex in the sidewalls did make it ride better though. These tires are great in the Rain, snow & dirt. They wore fantastic too.

How much do a set of these cost? Do people get all 5 or just 4?

I also have a set of these, and my only complaint is the same as a few others -- they have a nasty habit to wander on grooved pavement, the worst seems to be on bridges. Other than that, they are great.
I got all 5, in 265/70/17, and the spare just barely fits in the carrier.
