Just had Rear Main Seal replaced on my 4.0L, groove worn in on crank, still leaks

So i just had my rear main seal replaced on my 1gr-fe with 403k kms. The mechanic informed me that the oil leak may not completely stop because of a groove worn into the crank where the seal sits.

Has anybody on here dealt with this issue?

Will a thicker oil, say 5w40 help stop the leak?

Options?

I sure hope this was something they had considered, I do trust this mechanic.
How I wish I had the tools and space to work on this myself. I'm doubtful that thicker oil would help much. I guess its not worst to have to put in oil every so often, a bit frustrating.

well now that's a good thing to know this thing exists.

Guess it could cover even a gouge or a scratch, with prior gasket maker application

Glad to know this if I ever need it. I've been an auto tech for over 30 years, (been teaching auto tech for 11) and never heard of this. Or maybe I did and my old brain forgot about it.
