Just installed a new suspension, but...

So I recently replaced the ball joints that broke on my ride and with that I added a new suspension.

TRD coils, 906 ome and 5100's all around, but why is my setup rubbing on one side? The set up is all even and on properly but when I turn the driver side rubs and the passenger side doesn't. Also just to see what was wrong I measured from the floor to the bottom of the fender and the driver side or left side of the ride is all 1" shorter

I swapped everything out and it's on properly, has anyone had this problem ? Am I dealing with bad A arms?

Drivers side lean. Raise your driver side 5100 a perch over the passenger. Some also add a rear coil spacer to the drivers side. Mine balanced out with an extra perch on the drivers side.

Dang, this might apply to me also... going to run the same setup but with stock 99 coils...

will this apply to front 99 stock coils on 5100's as well?
is everyone running 5100's have this un-even spring perch?

No this has nothing to do with the 5100's this is just a symptom of old worn coils the drivers side coils are taller to cope with the extra weight on that side of the vehicle.

OP Are you sure you have the coils on the correct side? For the 906's its side A for the driver and for the TRD coils its the Double Yellow coil that goes on the drivers side.

It has to do with driver side lean in all honesty. Because I installed a brand new lift in my 4runner. 5100/eibachs in front with 5100/superflex in back. And even though one of the superflex coil is taller to compensate for driver side lean, I had to order a OME 10MM spacer and add it to the driver side rear coil.

Yeah I took out the suspension twice to make sure I had it on right, I get that I would get the driver side lean but this suspension is brand spanking new. Absolutely no miles on them so I'm not sure why I have the lean, I'm guessing maybe it has something to do with the arms but I can't be too sure

So on Monday I'll try to put the 5100 on the 2nd perch, if that doesn't work then I'm screwed lol:wtf:

Doesn't matter. Did u read my post above? I even called Toytec to ask about it, since one of the rear coils is taller. He said it happens.

How are you getting the "drivers side lean" if it's a new suspension?? Specially if the taller coile compensate for the lean??

Idk, life isn't always perfect. New or not. Even the guy at Toytec said his coilover is one higher then other to compensate for the lean. My friend did a lift kit in Tacoma. Brand new lift and also had to install a spacer to compensate the lean. Just get a spacer and call it day

If the suspension is new, its more then likely an installation error.
Can you take some pictures of the front struts and rear coils?
Also where in the bay are you?

I totally agree, I think it's more user error then anything and also when toytec tells you that "it happens" kinda sounds like they don't want any returns or exchanges lol

But check your install, maybe get it checked out by a shop

New update !!!!!!

So I got the trim packer and put the 5100 on the 2nd perch, everything looked good until I took a turn and the left side rubbed. I took a turn to pull it out of my drive way so I could park my other car and get it ready to get aligned tomorrow

Kinda freaked me out but it looks like an alignment might fix it, from the looks of it the truck is duck footed right now. Any ideas if the alignment will fix this or am I royally screwed :smash:

Dude get it aligned. That should have been done right awa .

I'm getting it aligned today, I couldn't drive the truck since all of this happened because I was waiting for the parts to show up. So it's been sitting in my driveway

Plus why would I pay to align it then have to adjust the coils and add the trim pack and then pay to re-align it again

Ive seen driver side lean on brand new suspension. It really makes no,difference, thats why people recommend a spacer to beggin with. However it could be install error also. OP did you tighten everything down when the truck was in air or on ground.

Exactly what do you think rubs ? What size tires do u have

Lots of people thinking about the height factor...

Don't forget that the castor adjustment essentially moves the lower arm forwards and backwards.

It also is possible that different adjustments on each side alter the clearance issues.

I had everything snug when in the air and tightened everything up when I had the truck on the ground

I got 275/70/17... The driver side is the only one that rubs when you turn the wheel and it rubs in the firewall area
