Just making sure I don't catch fire

I am almost tempted to rip the raptor lights out- but before I do...question:

Someone on here said I should be fine but it would be better to have a relay. Another person just recently said- car fire waiting to happen... So how can I wire in a relay to keep my hard earned 4runner from going up in a blaze (a wiring picture drawn up like mine would be helpful as I am a visual learner).

The raptor lights draw 3.5 amps total btw.

You shouldn’t need a relay for 3 leds. I would add an inline fuse to your power wire though.

I’m assuming the green wire you’re wanting to tap into is to have them come on with your parking/side marker lights? I wouldn’t want to tap off that personally.

I was planning on wiring mine to the fuse box with an add a circuit, but I may go a different route. I haven’t finished deciding what accessories I want and I may go with a little distribution box.

First off, t-taps are complete garbage. Don't use them.

Secondly, when and how do you want your Raptor lights to come on? With a switch? Automatically with the headlights? Or what? The answer will dictate how you should proceed.

Finally, do you own a fire extinguisher? Just kidding. Unless...

Where did you get 3.5A from? that’s a lot for three LeDs, I would say more like 0.5A. Either way, whoever told you you would start a fire or need a relay is hilarious.
Since you’re already going with the t-tap method. Just tap into the indicator lights from the headlight wiring in the engine bay or go the add a fuse method. No need to go through the firewall.

Edit: the fire warning might have been because of the wire you chose to tap into. I’m not sure what wire that is but it seems like it’s a lot heavier gauge then the rest. Using t-taps can cause high resistance in the original wire if connected wrong. This would not be ideal on a high current wire.

Agree with other comments. Those lights will likely draw under .5amp total for all three. You should test this yourself.

Avoid TTaps. For that low of power , add a circuit is easy and offers fused protection. If total draw is .5amp, consider 1amp fuse.

A relay is most often used as a low power way to control a higher power circuit. In the case of 3 LEDs a relay isn't really necessary. However, some sort of switch is if you want to control them separately. You might want to figure out what the current draw of those LED's is for proper fusing. And yea T-taps are crap. Use an in-line fuse or an empty spot in the fuse block.

I bought my raptor lights from runningfortacos. I’m doing the same hookup they did on there video. So they will come on when my lights are on. Also I’m adding bajadesigns LP4’s or LP6’s behind my grille and running wire thru fire wall for my switch.

My current setup

I have 3 raptors like, set up exactly like yours, but instead it leads directly to my battery. You can buy a basic wiring harness at Walmart (one that has a switch), and run it through your firewall and pop out one of those empty button sockets. I recommend buying a compatible push button that fits the 4runner for a cleaner look and you just swap the new button out with the stock wiring harnesses. The only issue is that you have to remember to turn it off, otherwise it drains your battery.

Another option is to wire it directly to an ignition wire up front that is only hot when the car is on. This removes the need for buttons or a wiring harness. Good luck!

What switches and powers the circuit tou are tapping? Id probably add a diode in addition to the fuse to make sure theres no way you can accidentally backfeed and kill something.

Why not just use a relay and trigger it off the parking light? Easy and nothing to go through the firewall. No t-taps (which do suck) and no fires. No chance of overloading an existing circuit. Honestly I have seen a few 4Runners with lights like these and it makes me think of lighted sun visors and bumper guides.
