Just needing some feedback

Well, my RPM problem seems to have been solved (the littlest of solution to the grandest of problems)...anyway...We (wife, family) are in need of a larger vehicle (read that,, third row seating) and figure that the T4R is the vehicle getting the nod for removal from the stable of cars we now have (I've gotten rid of too damn many hot rods over the years...and dammit...I'm not doing it again)
Here's the question...what is my truck worth?
I've looked in the "Trader", both print and online, Kelly's little bulls**t book, local information lists like Craigslist, etc., and found that I am now more confused than ever. I don't even have a base purchase number to start from because I paid less than a couple hundred bucks for it (barter trade stuff).

Here's the skinny: 1994 3.0 / Auto...stock drivetrain, no lift, 265/70-17 Toyo MT's on Centerline Forged wheels, stock interior other than Kenwood CD and speaks, Custom front bumper, KC's, minor exhaust work, other little tweaks for fuel mileage, and meticulously maintained. New paint (Corvette Black Rose), badge removal, all bodywork, 3M window tint (can't remember the type, but lowers the interior temp 15 degrees +-), trans and engine service every 2500 to 3000 religiously with all synthetic fluids.
Needs: Drivers seat, carpet, shocks...that's about it.

I'm just strugling with a starting point...have seen them from 1500 bucks all the way to 8000 and not a common denominator in site. "Make offer" in an add says two things..."I'm desparate", and "Please screw me"...so, any ideas will help

I would think you're in the $3-4k range unless the miles are ballistically high (under 200k should be acceptable). How's the rust underneath? I'm no appraiser or anything, but I've done a few searchs over the last few years (specifically 2nd Gen, like yours).

well for starters i'd try to find a clean like new stock front bumper and craigs list the one you have on it just to make a little side extra side cash! i dont think having that bad ass bumper on it will change the price. but if sold on the side you could sell that front bumper for a grand just by its self on craigslist easy. and then your truck i'd say from some on on the buyers end that 7k-9k would be fine cause your truck is clean. so put your truck up for around like 10k o.b.o and let them talk you down to like 8500ish. so if you replace that bumper with a new stock or lightly used one you could ask for 1500ish obo for the bumper that you have on it and let them talk you down to like a grand or so.

this might be high but your truck from whear i am at is 6k all day long for some thing in that good of shape!

While I understand pricing can be very subjective, I think your figures are quite optimistic. The bumper, while very nice, would sell AT RETAIL for around $1000 (fully loaded ARB or TAG goes for under that), and I just bought my last 4Runner from your area (around LA, CA)--a rust-free '95 with just over 100k, with tons of top-quality suspension upgrades, for $6500. Maybe I just got a killer deal, but a basically stock model (even with a nice bumper and new paint) going for $8.5-10k seems extremely high. Don't worry, I'm not trying to pick a fight here--just a friendly disagreement.

it really depends on what the buyer wants! you cant ad the cost of the parts other wise a runner of this year with a sas,a big lift,tires and full armor would cost like 15-25k if you add to the cost of extras to the price of the truck . but a rust free stock platform is good for building up into a rock rig,street truck or just enjoyed as a stock rig that can carry 4 people to a campsite or the movies 8-10k is what he should ask for and go back and forth so he might get only 5-7 for it!
i dont know any thing about aftermarket bumpers. i know enought to make one. that is when the time comes to look at aftermarkets bumpers for my runner!

oh not that you care but LA is 6+ hours from sacramento:biggrin2:! just for future refrence if you need it! and frendly disagreements are allways welcome with me but text does not let the tone of the sentence come through the screen!

csrob007, to start with, used Toyotas go for a lot more in the PNW than just about anywhere else in the country.
Your best bet is to check sources in your area to see what they're going for.
4WD club websites in that area is one good source.
Check your local library for a copy of the NADA used car price guide, it's the bible that dealers and banks use.

In the Tennessee area those are selling all day long for $3000 or less. I would say that since yours is extremely clean and very well kept, $4500-$5500. Craigslist would be your friend. Look at the asking price of the ones in your area .

I wouldn't count too much on NADA or KBB. Those are prices that you would expect to pay at a dealership or what a bank would expect you to finance... for the most part. When it boils down to it, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I don't agree with a whole lot that NADA or KBB has to say on older vehicles. There's too many variables.

Price is subjective, what it's worth is what someone is willing to pay. In my area, clean 4Runners can be had for 3-4K, with superclean going for up to 5K.
Time of year is also key, 4Runners demand a premium during the winter months.

Your 4Runner, from the picture looks super-sharp, and if that is the way it looks
in person(IE: not a 20 footer) then you should be able to demand an extra premium for those mods. The only things that would be a drag on the extra premium would be the mileage and the fact that it seems unfinished. It looks great, but the bumpers are mismatched, maybe you should replace the front bumper with a clean stock one and Craigslist your custom bumper. The interior
also needs to be super clean for you to demand the extra dollars. New carpet won't cost you but a couple hundred bucks, and you need to do something about the drivers seat. If you did those things and the mileage isn't bad, I think 6-7K on the high end.

But...the big question, how many miles on it? can't see many people paying big $'s if it has north of 200K miles on it.

I would agree with all...You've all given me some good points to look at. The mileage is a tick over 200, compression is good in all six holes, no smoke at any time and other than a wire on the distributor that recently gave me a little bit of a headache, it has run like a watch since I've owned it. The tires have got about 20,000 on them, the bumper is one built by me and has a grand total of less than a hundred bucks invested minus time. The interior will be my biggest hinderence given that it hasn't had anything done to it...it's not busted up (plastic, etc.), but stilll has the wear of a truck almost 20 years old. I'm trying to find that balance point of justification when it comes to spending money on something to increase value-vs- knocking off dollars and saving time.
The only thing I'll be able to do is tell the person it's been a good truck (everyone says that), and let the truck speak for itself.
The wife keeps telling me (especially after giving me new KC 630 kit for Xmas) she doesn't understand boys...they spend time and money making something look nice...just to get rid of it and start over...they'll never understand.
