Just picked up another 4runner.

I just bought this 00 4runner limited with 189k miles. It was the PO's DD until today, he bought a new volvo. It runs and drives nice but has a rust hole on the bottom of the frame near the pass. front door, so it's easily accessible for repair. I haven't had it up on my lift yet for a more detailed inspection of the undercarriage. The seller claimed that the only frame rust hole was the one he mentioned to me, which the dealer found when they were performing a oil change. I just bought it a couple of hours ago, i did check and confirm that all the p.w.'s, sunroof, p. seats, radio, heat/climate controls all work. Nice paint and body and it has the rear diff. lock. Not sure what i have planned for it but it runs/drives nice and the price was right so i bought it.

$1,000 for a nearly 14 year old truck with a frame rusted enough to warrant repairs? Ya, that guy didn't get robbed.

Blackcat i agree, i don't feel that i robbed him at all considering the rust hole in the frame. The mileage i'm not concerned with, it's a toyota. He purchased a new volvo right before he sold me the runner and he told me the dealer wouldn't give him anything for it because of the frame rust. I already have a 04 tacoma 4x4 TRD project that i've been dragging my feet on so i'm not sure what to do with this. I work in a garage as a auto tech and you wouldn't beleive the deals you come across. I have a customer with a nice 01 subaru AWD forester sitting at my work now with 160k miles with a blown motor. He wants me to give him $200 for it, it's a nice project for somebody just not me. Not sure what i'm gonna do with this runner. I may just cut out the rust spot and weld new medal in, clean it up and sell it. I know a mexican guy that has bought vehicles from me in the past, he fixes them and drives them to mexico and sells them for top dollor. A pic of my tacoma project, replacement motor goin in.

I also bought my DD 2000 runner from a customer at my work about 2 years ago with 165k miles and a leaking w.p. I paid him $3000 for it and did the repairs myself after hours at work. It was from Florida and was only in maryland for a couple years before i bought it so no long term exposure to road salt. It was bone stock when i bought it. Bumpers are next on my list.

Agreed, he got a good deal. As I recall, MD inspections are extremely thorough and I'm guessing that would be a failure so he'd have to get it fixed to get it tagged and on the road. It's a good looking truck tho and to me its look is the epitome of the 3rd gen 4Runner. Whatever you do with it, flip it or keep it, OP still did well for $1000.

Hearno your correct, MD. inspections are thorough and the rust hole will have to be repaired before it could be tagged/registered here. But after that one inspection no more the whole time you own the vehicle, just your basic emission testing every 2 years. As a technician i see alot of "junk" that shouldn't be on the road tho'. If your vehicle is 20 years or older no inspection or emission testing required at all, just tag and go.

I apologize for my post but i was just in disbelief that a rig that still looks that good even though rusted frame could only sell for $1k,here in the west coast even a crashed or flipped 4runner could still fetch for $2k with a complete running drivetrain.

I bought a 99 a year ago with a blown head gasket with 245k on it and still paid $2400 for it but the body had never been in any accident and interior is clean so it was worth giving it new life.maybe i should buy rigs here in Cali and drive to the east coast and double my money.ound:

Viper the tacoma's PO ran it low on oil due to a leaking oil filter. Instead of having the leak checked out and repaired he just kept adding oil. The bed was full of empty oil containers. He seized/broke a camshaft. I purchased a used 3.4L out of a 03 tacoma prerunner from a Arizona salvage yard with 69k miles. The tacoma is solid, top and bottom. Pic of the old motor and that's the replacement on the stand. I replaced all the maintance items, T. belt, w. p. ect....

Since your posting pics of your projects i will share some of mine,this 4runner had a good long life but it blew a head gasket due to a leaking radiator and by the time the PO realize the HG was damage and i ended up buying it.it took about a year for me to come up with funds to replace the engine and while i was saving up i dumped some HG sealer in it and drive it for about six months until it completely just quit.
