I got my 2nd gen as a wedding present back in July. I haven't had much spare time or money but I have been budgeting both. I have some new front rotors slotted and drilled with ceramic pads on there way, as mine are warped pretty good(hopefully done this weekend). And will be getting some OME rear coils next week as mine are all sagged out. And eventually a Flow Master like my dad had on his 91' yota pickup when I was a kid. With 230k on him I am looking forward to many more fun and exciting miles. I will post my upgrade's as I do them, lots of pics with tips for those they may help. I think I have my thread in the right place now.

Looks like a nice platform. What are your build plans?

Although, I have to say that you should have left the SR5 rims in their original state. I'm not against painting rims, but when you have original, keep them that way. If I ever get a 1st gen or another 2nd gen, I plan on finding a nice set of original SR5 rims and keeping them.

I cleaned them up best I could the clear coat was looking like crap. this was just a quick fix. First the front brakes upgrade, then new OME coils in the rear and shock upgrade, rear disc conversion. O yea and rip out that freakin automatic antenna mine in busted and sounds like hell every time I turn on and off the ignition. Those are the immediate plans

Most just unplug the antennae while up. The PO had this done. It would be nice to put it down when offloading in brush, but I decided there was no reason to replace it until it broke in half. It's been over 8 years and 65k, and it's still in one piece, though I did have to fix it once after some exploratory surgery.

My SR5 alloy rims are looking slightly rough. Some road salt isn't great for them, but I think they had some minor issues even before moving to the snow.

I can pull it up and push it down the motor just runs for a few minutes upon turning the ignition. I will replace it with a fixed antenna.

Some Wedding Gift!! Nice truck!
Yeah fix that antenna! Mine did that same annoying sound. drove me insane. the replacement is like 10 bucks and you can replace it with a pair of pliers.
have fun with the build

I ripped out out that old antenna today. I was able to knock it out before work. The bummer is the regular radio still doesn't work. At least the annoying noise is gone. I will just stick to pandora.

The antenna motor resides in the fender well. I think it was ten 10mm bolts.

goes on simple enough. The part that took the longest was removing the dash and radio to plug in the new antenna.

Weeknd plans first race Super D in Fontana. Next open this big box and get some work done on Tortuga. No more warped rotors for me. Power stop slotted drilled rotors with ceramic pads and a new air filter.

Did a little cleaning before work. I was planing on washing it anyway so I figured I get rid of some unwanted accessories.
First to go was the bug shield

First some clutter clearing and inspection. I removed and Inspected the intake. I was very happy to discover that my throttle body was spotless :clap2: then I found the bad news.

cracked intake boot along with a few other dried and cracking vacuum lines :cry2: But I feel I can not justify a new intake.
:focus:
Here a pic of 2-4-6 much easier to get to now.

I made short work of them. The common theme on the plugs was they were all looking lean either form the extra air coming in from the intake boot or I need a new fuel filter both of which I will be doing soon. Running short on time I put the intake and plugs / wires on and went to 1-3-5. A maze of vacuum line's covered this side so I just pulled out my big ass extension to make life easier.

This time 1 step forward and 4 steps back.
I got my front driver side axle place today. Here are some pics for those who have not done so before and it can help.

First remove the dust cap and the 12mm bolt on the end of the axle. Seems like someone has had this off before because the washer on the end is not the correct one. It is supposed to be about the size of a dollar coin.
Next remove six 12mm bolts holding the on the hub body. There are tapered sleeves on each stud that take a little tapping to free up and remove.

After this my hands got a little to greasy and i didnt want to touch my phone. But I had to remove the upper ball joint buts 12mm x4 as well as the upper nut holding the shock(for added clearance), remove sway bar mounts from that side(for more clearance).
After unbolting the six nuts holding on the axle(studs are on the diff side flange)

Next remove the c-clip from the spline side of the axle. And shimmy that bad boy out of there.

Next remove the axel seal from the wheel side from the old and install on the new. Then reverse process.

While I had it up in the air I grabbed my giant channel locks to check the Ball Joints and you guessed it SLOPPY SLOPPY. I guess this will be the next pressing matter. :frisky:

Not sure when I will have time to do the ball joints so as prep I cleaned the crap out my control arms this morning at the local spray and wash.

On my 95 its conviently located on the passenger side on the frame just above the tranny support. Open the gas cap to release any pressure form the line then tighten it back on before you crack those lines.

You will loose a little gas in this process so put down a pan to reduce the mess. When you go to start the truck give a few minutes KOEF(key on engine off) for the fuel line to prime. It took 2 good cranks before it started I let it run for a few minutes then cycled the ignition and it fired right up.

Finally a repair that didn't render more problems. With not much time to work on my runner I take what I can get. I took care of my driver side ball joints today.
When I replaced my axle I check my old ones and had close to 1/2in of play so they needed to go.

Tomorrow passenger side. possibly brakes.

Made sure to get Ones with grease ports. These are from Auto Zone with limited lifetime warranty. All of the hardware is beefier that what was on the truck. Which was a problem on the lower outside bolts, no room for the bigger head went from a 14mm to 16mm. When I get the spacers for the top I am going to stop by Hilco and pick up all grade 8 hardware.
