Just to give props...from a 5th Gen'r

You guys/girls must have one incredible truck...driving into work today, i saw no less than 8 or 9 3rd gens all over the place.

one was lifted and done up really nice....but all the others were stock, or even less than stock...in all states of upkeep or disrepair...but obviously all were in working condition.


i can only hope i can keep my 5gen running 10-15yrs from now.

LOL, every time I read those guys in the 5th gen forum I lol. All I hear is angry people that couldn't afford another 5k.

If I had the money I'd totally get a 5th gen.

First of all... it's like an extra $8k. Second, most of us could afford it, we're just smart enough to pass on it. :playball:

I don't know if it's incredible, but my '97 which I bought new off the lot, does represent the longest period of time I've ever owned any vehicle.

The 5th gens are nice enough. I test drove them when they were arriving at Dealerships in late '09. I test drove them in '14 with the refresh. And last night I drove my Sister's new '16 Trail Edition Premium W/KDSS, she just picked up last Friday.

I found that for all the reasons I have a 4Runner, I still prefer my old '97, SR5, V6, 4wd, 5-speed, E-locker, Factory Oak leather, Moonroof, premium sound, larger wheels, brakes, and tires, which still looks and drives nearly as good as the day I drove it off the lot, 4Runner.

It's had one part fail in 18 years: A $20.00 hydraulic clutch hose.

Other than that, just regular maintenance.

So while I could go buy a new 4Runner today, I have no reason to.

If you maintain your 5th gen, it shouldn't be a problem for it to last a long time.

Indeed we do, and this isn't unusual. I live in a small town (30k or so), and I still see them running the roads all over the place. They're tanks for sure.

Have you seen the 2016 TRD Pro Tacoma with Crawl Control. Its freaking amazing even if its almost cheating.

Dont think the 4runner TRD Pro is getting it, kind of sad.
 
The regular TRD Off Road Tacoma's get crawl control also. It's crazy but it makes a lot of noise, sounds like gorillas beating the fenders. There's a few videos on YouTube.

I'm of the same opinion. I have friends with 4th gens, and they're holding up very well too, so I suspect the 5th will be just as good. Some of the additional complexity concerns me a little, but Toyota generally has a pretty good handle on the quality control of that kind of stuff.

I'll probably always own a 10+ year old 4Runner. I've been contemplating bumping up to a 4th gen lately, as the prices are pretty reasonable, and they're better for all the highway driving I have to do than what I have now. I'm not sure I can bring myself to pull the trigger though. I have this one just like I want it now. Maybe another year with it before I make the move. :playball:
 
My sis has a SR5 5th gen, got it at a steal of $27,000 early last year for a 2013 model right off the lot. She has kids, so it works for her.

About to have my 3rd gen for a decade. Still loving it.
