JWaldz '99 Adventure Build - Dual Locked | Geared | Mid-Travel | 35s | Armored

Just ordered 9 quarts of RedLine 75w90 NS GL5 to complete replace all the oils in my truck. Hopefully when it gets here I'll knock all of it out in the same day. My starter is bout to crap the bed, makes a nasty noise when cranking over and takes some slight effort to start. I get to look forward to that PITA job very soon, woohoo. Also just bought a driver side used 99+ headlight on ebay for $44 bucks! Pretty excited about that. My current one has a hole in the glass and is getting really dirty. I'm going to replace the passenger side soon too cus it's had a leak for a while. I drilled a small hole in the bottom to rid of collected moisture and somehow mud found it's way up it. Now the housing is dirty and chrome lining on the inside is peeling. Bidding on one on ebay but it's got a few days left. I want to start working on my side storage bins soon. I don't know how well it's going to work without a table saw. Might have to build only the side bins and wait on the platform with pullout drawers for now. Oh yea, the CBI rear bumper should be here some time next week, hopefully! Crossing fingers!

Right on man. Sounds like a lot of fun projects.

So 9 quarts of gear oil should take care of the diffs and transfer case?

I need to get all the fluids changed on mine as well. Just trying to decide whether I will be pulling the trigger on gears and front locker and change fluids then or take care of the cases now.

Also, I'm really interested to see what you come up with for the storage setup in the back. I have a few ideas for mine, but they are still just ideas and nothing finalized.

Very true. The light output would dramatically increase for sure. And the retrofit cost I thought would have been more than that.

The 9 quarts should take care of fr/rr diffs, transfer case, and just drain of transmission. I doubt my transmission has synthetic in it now but I've read that blending shouldn't hurt anything. I don't feel like doing a full flush of the transmission pan. I think if I drain it again in about a week and add another 4 qrts of synthetic it will be close to simulating a flush. The boxes I want to build are going to be just tall enough to be able to put the cargo cover back in. I'm planning on building my 10" subs into each side so I can save room from having that big box back there. The platform I'll eventually build will prob only be about 1-1/2' tall with 2 pull out drawers.

Since you're getting new headlights you might as well retro them....just saying.

Haha, you're more than welcome to donate to the cause cus my money tree is recovering right now :D

I toyed around with the idea of practicing on the old ones since they're toast anyways. Maybe later down the line :thumb3:

Right on. Shouldn't an auto trans use ATF not gear oil though? Unless I missed that you have a 5 speed. If that is the case, you shouldn't have a tranny pan right? Maybe i'm stuck on vw tranny's....... in that case, carry on good sir. :becky::llama:

hmmm, you may have a point.. I think it was cus I was looking at a write-up for a 5 speed! DOH! Yes, I will need ATF, no biggie. THANKS for catching that though.

It's more depending on what you use. I went cheap with discounted projectors and ballasts and I had my 99+ headlights already. My next one will be above $500 when I get around to it.

Good try, but my money tree is pretty much dead. I'm just trying to make it past this month. It's not that hard and honestly if I can do it anyone can.

That could have been a big oopsie. If I were to have recommended that to you I would have done one of these right after I said it ...:bolt:

Ya you need ATF in the auto trans. :bigok:

Good luck getting all of it changed out. The ATF I think you would be ok to drain, fill, drive around a couple weeks, drain and fill, etc. Not sure how you open all the gates to do a full flush in one drain. definitely keep an eye on how much drains out though. Get old gallon milk jugs and drain into those. That will keep pretty good track on how much fluid you need to put back in.

I'm not worried about it being hard, I just rather not do it to my good headlights the first time If I got some junk ones laying around. It obviously can be done cheaper but if you've noticed, nothing on my rig is cheap lol.

Haha well I'm glad you caught it. Weird how a 5-speeds lubrication differs from an automatic. Thanks! Everyone says about 4 qrts comes out which is a gallon. So If i fill up a gallon jug I know exactly how much to put back in lol.

Yup you got it. Good luck with getting everything finalized for you trip to texas. Always feels good to take care of all the maintenance items at once.

I noticed that when I just drained/filled my diffs that with the ARB's, it seems to take just a tad less than the factory specs for capacity. I was able to drain the front diff (overnight) and fill with just one quart bottle. Any lift rake & diff drop lowers that fill plug too, so pour in as much as you can, or even lift the front end a bit to level it out.

That's a good idea.. I'll be sure to jack it up to level it a little when I fill 'er up! Thanks for the tip.

How's these??

Bi Xenon FX R PNP Upgrade | eBay

Since I already have HID's these would work well. Not to mention my HID's are a high end kit and cost as much as that kit.

Yeah that's not a bad kit at all. You could go cheaper by going with the Mini H1's or D2S, but they're aren't as nice as the FX-R's. I have the Mini H1's and they do really well and were simple to install. The FX-R's take a bit more work, but brianemc did a great write up and the outperform the Mini's by a good amount.

Well, when the time comes I might go that route. Doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

So, while I was ordering my RedLine from Amazon I decided to throw an oddball order in it as well. I figured, what the hell.. :D

Silicone fob cover. Works great for me since I keep my keys on my belt and they bang up against everything!

RedLine oil should be here this week. Driver side headlight should be here tomorrow. The passenger side bid ended today so it probably wont get here till next week. Lastly, they shipped my CBI bumper today. Ready to see this thing! I leave for Texas in 9 days so I pray I get it all painted in time and the install goes smoothly.

I love a quick, easy, and painless job.. It's like going from '96-'98 headlights to '99+ headlights even though I already had '99+ headlights lol.

Man that looks great. I have been wanting to do a full 99+ change over on mine. How is the light output on the 99+ compared to the 96-98 lights?
