My dad rides a 2011 shadow 750 and loves it. Its not overly powered by any means but its got enough for what you need. A lot like our 4runners. Lol
But he got it through a dealer brand new, but it was a left over from the fall before so he got a great deal on it. another option for you.

Not a harley guy eh? they acutally get 40+ mpg better than my CB750, but then again i ride like a dumbass lol

lol exactly.. A 750 should be enough to get me out of any trouble if need be. It doesn't necessarily have to be new. I just don't want something over 10 years old haha.
Ehh, too big. I'm not a big fellow. Plus, this will be my first own bike. I've rode before but they were my roomates in college. He had 2 cruisers and we'd ride around town on sundays.
I don't not like Harley but they're not in my price range. I like the look of the Sportster 883. I really like the Sportster Iron 883.

I thought it would be more relevant in here to ask than your trip/picture thread; could you put some photos of your new bumper carnage and how it happened? Thoughts on the hit it took to cause the damage? Photos from your trip look awesome by the way, that is great you got to trailer your rig part of the way!

When the weather clears up I'll try to get some pics. I've already grinded down all the deep scratches and re-painted over them so it probably wont be as evident. I was climbing over an obstacle and my passenger front tire slid off a rock and and the whole right side of the truck just fell about 2 ft. The right rear corner of the truck happened to land on a rock. It was a very violent hit and shook the entire truck. I'm 100% certain had I had the stock bumper on, it would have caused body damage as well. The rock the bumper landed on was fairly round, so instead of making any puncture type gouges, it made more of a bowl dent. I think it also may have pushed the corner of the bumper up, but not much. You'll see what I mean in the pics.
In the mean time... I got new goodies

I've made this post 3 times now. The first 2 were blanks! So, hopefully 3rd times a charm lol..
I finally got some better overall pictures of the rear bumper and swing away. Also got some pictures of the damage to the right wing. Description of how it happened is above.

Compared to above picture
I could probably remove the bumper and bang out the dent as well as try to straighten up the wing but I don't think it would be worth the hassle. Honestly, I doubt this will be the only damage the bumper gets in the new few years lol. Overall, the bumper lines up perfect. They did a great job making sure it fit well with my 2" body lift.

I like how you got the CBI on at the last minute and then you take it straight to texas and put a nice dent in it! lol that's how it's done sir.
Glad to see you had the bumper, that would have made me sad to see your rear fender take a big hit!

Looks great man. Would rotopax fit in the same spot as your gas can now? Have you checked the dimensions?

The jerry can cage's usable space is roughly 18" tall x 14" wide with 7.5" Depth. So I know a rotopax can would fit in there, I just don't know how I would lock it into place.

The only thing that sucks is you can only run 2 x 2gal cans in that space (1.5" shy on the deptch from getting another) which would put you 1 gallon shy of where you are with the jerry can. If you had a dual jerry can setup side by side you could fit 5 of the 2gallon cans. With what is there, you would probably be better off sticking with the jerry.
Setup looks good though. With the lack of fuel range that these 3rd gens have, I would be thinking of 2 or 3 - 4 gallon cans up on the rack or possibly when I get the tire rack mounting a couple on each side of the tire.
I wish a company would commit to making a drop in, plug and play 20+ gallon auxilary tank for the factory spare tire spot. Hmm. Maybe I will have to start looking into something...

I'm fine with the jerry can where it is.. 5 gallons is plenty for me. I don't do a whole lot of overlanding, but it should be enough to cover me for when I do. I just wanted a rotopax water can for the trail. I'll probably end up getting that tire mount and making it work if it doesn't already.

Good stuff. Im interested in something I saw on expedition portal. Making a swing down skid/ roto pax mount for the spare tire location to keep the cans out of the way. Maybe I can figure something out for my own application.
