Did you end up replacing your rear u-joints at some point (I thought you did)? Did you follow any particular write up if you did?

Yea, I did back in February bc it was completely shot.

I'm sure there's some guides out there but it's not that hard to do. Just tedious if you don't have the right tools. Drop the ds, pull the slip yoke (be sure to make markings to put it back in the same spot), remove c-clips, use a BFH or a vice of some sort (I used old impact sockets) and start working out the caps. A table vice comes in handy to keep the thing in on place. Most common at home technique is to place it on the ground using a hammer and socket, hammering away. You have to have something on the other end though that's sturdy enough and allows the u-joint to move. Maybe use another socket, but larger. Can't just place it straight on the ground and hammer, it won't be able to be pushed out.

BTW, you can search for guides not necessarily specific to 4Runners. A single cardan u-joint is pretty popular thing. I'm sure there's tons of general write-ups on the net.

Now if you told me I was going to be trail riding 5 days later right after I had sunk my 4runner, I would have said go to hell. Buuuuuuttt, this is what I built it for so had to get back out on the trails. Just out shooting some guns and trail riding with a couple LC's

I do too.. I bought them so long ago and they were cheap. I hated my '99 tail lights and these offered a lot better back up light. However, over the period of owning them I've never been satisfied with the look. After getting the rear CBI I've wanted to upgrade them cus they just look cheap combined with it. That and they don't match well with all the other expensive shit I have on this truck now lol. To be honest, I wish more people would have said they look like poo. Would have bought the led tails sooner haha.

Did you feel getting the 4.88's made a big difference in how the 4runner felt power wise? I'm currently gathering parts and just want to be sure I should go this route or just save for a s/c. Gears are a lot cheaper if I go the route I'm taking so thats a plus.

BTW, CBI put a picture of your 4runner on their facebook page and some guy said your taillights sucked and looked ugly. Made me laugh as I agreed.

Did you feel getting the 4.88's made a big difference in how the 4runner felt power wise? I'm currently gathering parts and just want to be sure I should go this route or just save for a s/c. Gears are a lot cheaper if I go the route I'm taking so thats a plus.

No problem. Yea I've seen you're on the hunt for some 4.88s. I think they get me back closer to stock with the 35s but sometimes I wish I would have went with 5.29s, especially with all the weight I've added now. However, the interstate is part of my 15 mile commute to work every day and that would kill my gas mileage even worse than it is now. With that said, I'm very content with the 4.88's. Despite the additional weight, I think the power is very close to a stock feeling.

I got them off eBay. Guy shipped it same day from cali. They look good however I only opened the box to take a pic and that was it lol. Gf is off on Tuesdays so I spent time with her this evening. I'll get them put on tomorrow and let ya know the details. I will say that I've searched the whole depot vs eagle eye versions. I went with Eagle Eye.

Well, this turned out to be the quickest most fulfilling and rewarding mod to date! Simple plug and play install, everything works from what I could tell. Look forward to seeing them at night.

Good to know. I don't plan on going to 35's with this vehicle, but may do 34's (285/75/17) next time. Just need to find me a front diff.

Also the taillights look sweet, I've always wanted to get some, but I can't justify them.

haha, I debated selling them. But I doubt I'd get much. I'm just going to keep them as a back-up for now.
