Hey all,

So exactly what the title states.
Is a K&N cold air intake really worth it?
I found a great deal on my local craigs list, good condition for $60.
Thinking about puling the trigger, but im not sure of the actual benefits

Thanks

the only thing i kept from mine was the tube, i hooked that up to the factory air box (because i was running a snorkel so, CAI and snorkel dont mix...) and i acutally gained a few mgp i would only typically maybe get like 200-220 per tank and now im getting like 24-250 a tank and thats with the stock air filter too... i did run the k&N drop in filter for a while but it was too much of a hassle to clean them as much as i was having too, spending so much time on dusty back roads they would clog up fast, and i have 3 of them... i just use the factory drop in now -they are cheap enough

I had one in my last car and did see actual HP increase on the dyno of 10HP, but I also reworked the exhaust a bit too. I only got mine because summit racing sent me a bunch of gift cards after i bought my tranny cooler so it was technically free. I bought the AirAid tube because my stock tube ripped apart when I was attempting the ISR mod. It was dirty anyway and i love the look of the airaid so it was ok. Anyway, I did see better gas mileage but i drive 90% highway.

K&N intake will do absolutely nothing UNLESS you ALSO upgrade the exhaust. Upgrades for intake and exhaust must be done in pairs or else there are no benefits. However, if you want a louder intake, the K&N may give you that but I am not familiar with them so I do not know. All I know is that to receive greater performance, something needs to be done at both ends.

Agree with seanshreds you only gain hp by letting more air in and at the same time you have to let the air out to get great result. Any restrictions can rob hp.

Only reason I added intake was for the sound. Gave me a hair better gas mileage. No power change from the butt dyno.

I don't have the K&N but I did just install the Airaid pipe with an aFe filter and butt dyno says there's a LITTLE more oomph. I did install new plugs/wires too so could also been that. All in all, worth it for a more custom/cleaner engine bay. Got my pipe off amazon for 65 bucks!

I wonder if anyone has actually thrown away a K&N before? I do like their oil filters.

I really like True Flow's set up; too bad they fell victim to the recession and went out of business before I could buy one.

I've had one since 2004 and just had it replaced under their lifetime warranty.

They were really good about it and express shipped me a new cone at no cost. I never had to send the old one back in.
