Keep 2" or go 3"?

I've been saving and thinking. Thinking and saving. Now here I am about to pull the trigger on the next upgrade for my 08' V8.

Current build is OME 2/1" lift with 5 yr old BFG KO2 265/70R17 and RCI sliders.

Now I'm either going to upgrade to OME 3" lift with BFG KO2 285/70R17

or

Keep the current lift, buy new 265/70R17 and add some armor for oilpan and diff, and do a bunch of cheap QOL mods (Seat covers, lighting upgrades) and then start thinking about a bumper/wench.

It's my daily driver with about a dozen 4x4 trips a year average.

Most recently I got stuck about half way up Medano Pass at Sand Dunes because of some serious opposing holes and was wondering if that might want more tire? I dunno. I'm an eternal greenhorn.

I'm going to make the decision this week and was hoping for some advice from others on the subject.

Also, any advice on how to handle insurance changes due to upgrades increasing value of the vehicle?

I'll bite, Option 1 for me! but I have questions:

How old is your current suspension setup springs/shocks?
What would you do to change your lift? a whole new setup or just upgrade pieces?
How was your experience with the BFG's?

I have an 07 v8 with a Dobinson's IMS setup and yoko Geo MT's 285/70r17 wrapped around a -10 offset wheel

The suspension is the same age as the tires. Looking at roughly 5 1/2 years old. Probably 50k miles on them.

I'd keep the same overall performance on the suspension, but would obviously like something a bit more capable. So, 3" lift with 33s should net me another 1 1/2" clearance which would be nice.

That said, not sure that re-purchasing the whole kit is that beneficial for the money.

as for your option 1 or 2 question, personally I like option 2. I like the idea of armor, to me that's more important than the extra 1.5inches if you find yourself going over a lot of rocky terrain, but that's just my opinion

as far as insurance, I would make sure they are notified of any modifications you do. it's important because they need to assess if your modifications make your vehicle more expensive, more likely to get into an accident or more likely to hurt someone else or yourself in an accident.

It would be a real unfortunate situation if you added a nice solid metal bumper and winch, get into an accident with a tiny little yaris and really end up hurting someone inside. only for your insurance to give you trouble because your vehicle had major modifications that weren't disclosed as per your policy. or if your vehicle gets totaled you don't get fair value since your insurance doesn't have record of these 'enhancements' to your vehicle on file. the smart thing to do is call insurance when making a major upgrade, but I realize most people don't do this. insurers DO NOT like to find out surprises when you are trying to make a claim

also make sure your mods are legal in your state/province, insurance will check this too. if illegal, forget about coverage
