Keep JBL Synthesis or Bypass?

Hi all! I was hoping to get your input for those who have either upgraded their head unit and kept the JBL Synthesis system...OR... those who have bypassed the amp so the head unit runs the speakers. I’ve found threads on the how to, but i’d Be curious on the quality of sound between the two options. I know with one i’d Lose the sub and only run front and back door speakers. My current JBL system has no issues in needing to bypass, it just has set in equalizing properties where I can’t really adjust the sub or move sound.

Any input would be awesome for those who’ve done either option.

Anyway to run the sub easily if you bypass? Would suck to lose that option.

Hmmm, so I just bypassed my JBL. I bypassed because I had installed a scion radio and kept getting volume fluctuations with my adaptor system. I’m semi OCD when it comes to my 4runner and couldn’t handle it. So I left everything in place but ran new speaker wires and essentially built my own OEM non JBL harness with a metra adaptor running my new speaker wires to the adaptor. And then a second adaptor from the OEM JBL plug to complete my non JBL harness without having to cut or tap any wires. I wish I had found threads on how to do this, because I just made it up as it went along. I also went aftermarket with head unit over my scion again.

However, back to your question, as clean as my new system sounded post JBL, the lack of sub was noticeable. I also missed the center channel. It’s a matter of getting used to the new sound. My plan was to rip out the sub And trade the enclosure for the storage cubby on non-JBL 4runners, but haven’t yet because I’m considering running a small amp and sub back there. But I really don’t want to have to run a power wire from the car through the firewall.

If you’re keeping everything stock, my recommendation would be to not mess with it.
