I got my 2007 4Runner Sport a couple of weeks ago. Now I installed a Kenwood DNX9960. I also tried to install a BOYO422HD back up camera. I had some issues. The Kenwood came with some wires that said "CAM +" and "CAM -" So i decided to use this to power the camera. We checked and 8volts seems to be the output of the wires. I also hooked up the reverse wire that was on the main harness of the radio to the reverse wire that will give a signal to the wire once you go into reverse and cut off when you go to drive. When we put it into reverse the screen switches to the reverse camera but no ouput signal. I did hook up the videos cables so this wasn't the issue. Then we just deiced to ground the cable and hook up the red power cable of the camera to a 12 volt source and put the car into reverse and the video showed up. My question is am I hooking up everything alright? I don't want to hook up the camera to a constant 12volt because it will decrease the life of the camera. I just want it to turn on when I go into reverse. Should I try to use a relay or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
