KER CHUNK! Switching to 4L

Over the weekend I messed up the sequence for switching into 4L and heard a noise like when you try to shift without the clutch all the way depressed (won't do that again)and only for a second but now when I engage 4L normally or Go back to 4H I hear a ker chunk sound and I can't remember if it did that before or not. It might be perfectly fine so can anyone tell me if their vehicle does this? It's a 2003 V8 if that helps

A good solid "kerchunk" is normal, that's a solid and smooth engagement I would say. It becomes an issue when you hear it make that sound and it pops out of gear. :)

On the trail I find it barely noticeable but have been surprised from time to time how loud it seems in a quiet garage.

I'll bet you got faked out by the same thing.
