Kicker Subaru Tweeter Upgrade for 4runner?

I discovered this thread three days ago, order them the same day, and installed them today. Big difference over stock! Now it actually sounds like there is sound coming from the dash! :lol:

I just did this and my only regret is not having it done sooner.
The sound is better but it still is not amazing. But it’s better. There is more mid-range frequencies coming out of that speaker and with the audio waves bouncing off the windshield, it’s immediately noticeable to the two front occupants.

It is not a speaker system upgrade which is also noticeable, as in the inadequacies of the other speakers are now more pronounced. If you got a golden year, you won't be happy. I wonder if there are equivalent 6x9 and 6.5" Kicker speakers - anyone looked into that?

But this little audio modification was exactly what I wanted – an upgrade that wasn’t time consuming. Following a ten-minute job, I get better sound and I didn’t waste half a Saturday cursing.

I’ve already done the kicker upgrade but I’m also wanting to replace the door speakers.

Can I use the Focal replacements AND the kicker tweeters? Not necessarily both tweeters but possibly just the driver from the Focals and the kicker tweeter

So I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on these. I like plug and play upgrades. How are these things holding up out there? I have my fader more to the back, just personal preference. Has anyone found a good plug and play upgrade for the hatch speakers?

Thanks! Found them on amazon as well with good reviews. I guess I might go with fresh tweets in the dash and better 6.5’s in the hatch...will that sound like total crap without replacing all the speakers?

@CMATZ I installed the power base as well so now I’m jamming. Thanks for the recommendation. Only thing is if I turn it up they vibrate the hatch!

I'm also curious about this upgrade. Would the Subaru tweeters work in a 2020 ORP 4Runner? Io assume my 2020 unit is not a 'JBL' version since I don't see that anywhere on the unit.

Also, are the 2020 factor tweeters the same as previous years? The sound in my 2020 isn't bad, but I don't really have anything to compare it against either. If these Subaru tweeters provide a noticeable improvement, I get them.

Read this thread, got excited, bought them for a $100, realized my ears requires a little more than a tweeter replacement. So if anyone wants to try these for cheap let me know I'd sell them for $85 shipped.

Don't get me wrong, great upgrade def better than stock but felt like I was lacking mids and bothered me a lot.

Just added these on my 2020. Nice upgrade in front dash speaker sound. Sound is much clearer than before.

I too pulled the trigger on the subaru tweeters , then headed down the rabbit hole by purchasing the front Rockford Fosgate 6x9’s with Metra wiring kits and Metra speaker adapters. I also bought 4 of the 6.5 Rockford Fosgate speakers , Metra wiring harnesses and Metra Adapters for the rear doors and rear hatch.

Probably the biggest (and most time consuming) was the $250 worth of sound deadening material I used in every door and rear hatch cavity.

I’m not going to lie the difference is pretty stellar. Even the feel and sound of the doors closing and the removal of a ton of road noise without the stereo on just from all the sound deadener.

I can imagine the addition of a powered sub would also add to the whole package even more but I’m very content where it’s at now.

Honestly this Covid 19 has me doing things I normally wouldn’t bother doing but with having some free time and needing to stay busy in the garage I’m all over it.

Absolutely you can notice the change.

I checked the change after each addition of speakers from the front to the rear. Quite possibly the single biggest change of any of the speaker sets.

I know why you mean about the location of the 6x9’s in the front doors but they have made the best use of their location and angle of their placement in the door itself.

Keep in mind I’d probably think the installation of the sound deadener might have played a big part but handling both the stock and the replacement 6x9 speaker it’s obvious there is huge gains to be made.

The Kicker Subaru Tweeter upgrade made a big difference in clarity for me. The improvement is especially apparent when listening to talk radio/audiobooks/podcasts, etc. Night and day difference for me. A huge improvement for about $100 or so and 20 minutes.

Just dropped in a set of Infinity Reference 3032cfx 3.5" speakers and wow what a huge difference! Wish I would have done this sooner, great $50 upgrade. Guess I'll keep the ball rolling and upgrade the rest of the speakers...

Had to cut the mounting brackets. I could have bought some speaker harnesses, but I'm too cheap and reused the existing parts. Easy upgrade that didn't very long to complete.
