Yes it has a chain that someone put it in wrong. Ur harmonic balancer has rubber that holds the 2 parts together and over time the rubber slips and can come apart . It happens on any harmonic balancer over time

Interesting! I haven't ever seen a harmonic balancer fail on a 22re... or any engine for that matter. Usually the front seal will wear a ring in the balancer and cause the sealing surface to wear down and cause oil leaks. Never heard of the rubber breaking down though.

found a ecu and put it in and now the 4runner is running rear good. I still have to get exhaust because it sounds bad but its running real good so now its time to start building everything else
