D5100 joined the family... I switched to the dark side (they had cookies and Nikon) LMAO. The deal on the Nikon was way better than on the Canon and the features actually a bit better.

Just need to pick up a 55-300 zoom lens.

Awesome for 5th Gen 4Runner trips (I'm trying...) where you need quite a bit of range without having to switch lenses or have multiple cameras hanging off of you. This lens stays on my camera most of the time unless I'm shooting static scenes.

Thats what the wife is buying for me. The 18-55 that came with the body will be fine for scenery at the FJ Summit, but I need something for around town. I need to pick up a spare SD card as well and a spare battery since this thing uses some proprietary power pack.

Nikon is great untill you want to by nice glass then they are really over priced. What color lenses do 95% all pro sports photographers have?

I'm waiting on the rumored 7d mkii.

Let's not kid ourselves here, white lenses are where it's at.

I have a Canon 7d and my old 20d as a backup. I compared a good bit with the 5d MkII, but the AF system on the 7d was superior. I wasn't ready to drop 3k+ on the MkIII.

All I have to say is...........dual dials, not dial and wheel thingy or hold down av button.

Nikon > Canon.

Make sure you get the 35mm/f1.8 Prime lens ($200). My favorite lens for my D5100

ok, since i found a thread off topic to answer my question...will my old nikon "analog" lenses work with the new digital cameras? I dropped quite a bit of cash on them a while back I would hate to have to buy all new stuff.

Yes but only MF will work. The D7000 can use AF on non-AF lenses as it has a second motor built in.

I would say so. A kit with a 18-105 lens is $1400.

Retail is around 1100 on that (Amazon is a good price check). Nikon hasn't had any good deals (ref slickdeals) lately. I wouldn't buy a camera unless you had a few hundred off retail.... unless you NEED a camera.
