King coilovers and shocks

Can I get some feed back from this running kings on their runners?
OEM replacements, custom setup, etc.

I plan on using Kings for the coilover/ shock portions of my suspension mods. Possibly running dual rate coils in the front, smoothies in the rear with some LC coils. I want to keep the fabrication to a minimum as far as suspension setup goes.
Here's what I was thinking
King PR2510 in the front (heavier springs to comp for bumper, winch, etc)
Light racing UCA
King PR2512 or PR2514 smoothies in the rear
LC coils
Plus 1-2" body lift.

Daily driver so I want a relatively comfortable ride, not rock crawling, more long distance off road travel (not at high speeds) but I still want it to get me thru most obstacles.

What I have priced out so far is going to run me approx 3200 for all listed above plus diff drop
Pan hard, etc

i stopped after i saw the fronts were 10" travel shocks. you are gonna need way more than ucas haha.
thats long travel territory.

look at the extended travel oem replacements.

Yup, dual rate c/o's start at 10" and go up. Even an 8" stroke c/o is too long for factory arms. That's the standard size for long travel kits on our rigs such as Total Chaos, Camburg, etc. Stock replacement c/o's (including ext travel ones) are only like 6-6.5" stroke.

Matter of fact, check out Patio Burrito's setup. It's about as built as you can go in the front without going full LT.

^^^ these two posts above lol

Patio Burrito's is the truck you want to look at. Otherwise you'd be pretty dialed with a full Icon setup. Also, cross the body lift off the list, you don't need it.

That truck with that king suspension is sick. By passed for dual shocks !!!

Few questions, do u need tundra axels for that set up ?

If you run total chaos long travel kit. Exactly what are benefits vs what patio set up.

Straight from Kings website. These are the part numbers you want and you can see the lengths of everything.

4Runner 1996-2002
25001-333 - Front Coilover Internal Floating Piston - Compressed 15.342" Extended 19.330" = 4" stroke

25001-334 - Rear Shocks - Compressed 14.017 Extended 22.367 = 8" stroke

25001-334A Rear Shocks Compression Adjuster - Compressed 14.017 Extended 22.367 = 8" stroke

I personally will be adding the res and compression adjuster to my fronts as well.

If you don't want to fab anything, than buy one of these. I guarantee you that if you could fit a dual rate on these shocks, they wold offer it. It's kind of one of those things where if you don't want to get custom, then buy what is out there and don't re-invent the wheel. If you do want to get crazy, then be prepared for a lot of work, haha. I personally plan on running their shocks when I have the pennies saved up. I have done enough custom stuff to know that unless you are racing, all that work to get one more inch of travel, or the ride just that little tiny bit better, is not worth my time and energy. They have done it for you, take advantage!

Let me tell you a few things.
1. I have Kings (part number and shock below what mojavemadman talks about) and i love them. They are direct replacement coil overs with adjustable collar to change preload and lift. ive got mine set up for 3" lift in the front and love the ride. taking speed bumps, gravel roads, dips in the road are fricking fun!!!!! the suspension is so smooth and plush all the way through the travel.
2. Let me know what type of body lift you want. im your man to hook you up!!!
3. I also have a pan hard drop for you too from toytec so you can save money there and ill add it in the package of the body lift.

I have there and they are great. check out my build thread around page 2 or 3 i install (bought them used) them and the last page (today ) i repainted them to clean them up. let me know if you want more pictures of this type of shock.

Question.
Are you planning on getting a bumper?
If you are planning on lifting it 3"?

if yes to both i would recommend getting spring size 3.0 16 600
I have a size smaller 3.0 14 600 and i have to preload them quite a bit to gain the lift.

Patio has a pimped out stock suspension so it's probably really smooth, but if you want to go fast you need more travel to keep the ride smooth so the tires can follow the terrain and not bounce over it. Most setups do this by widening the stance 7" and running Tundra axles and usually yield 12+ inches of travel easy, I would be surprised if he has over 9" of travel in the front. As downpour said in that thread, it's a sleeper setup since he's pulling as much performance out of the stock (minus UCA) geometry as he can.

Thanks for all the info. Patios build is almost spot on to what I want.

I will be running a winch with a steel bumper up front once design is done.

I found a used set on craigslist listed for an 01-04 tacoma. King has different part numbers on their website. Would these work? Are they valved differently?

Yep you're good to go. I don't know if they actually valved 4runners and Tacomas differently, but my Fox's have the same part number for both vehicles.

The only difference on King's website is that the 4Runner shocks have a 3.98" stroke and the Tacoma's have 4.175" and it says the 4Runners have an internal floating piston. I'm pretty sure they are different shocks, but I just want to make sure everything else would work. I can't see any issues but I thought it's always good to ask. I've only ever heard good things about kings.

I would assume these are just like any other shock to rebuild right?

I would assume you can rebuild them, don't know of any Kings you can't. If they are valved wrong just revalve them, it literally takes like 30 minutes to do it your first time and $6 of shims.

Okay guys talk me into or out of this. I found a set locally for $450. Unknown mileage. The guy bought them used for a project, but then sold his Taco before he used the shocks. He says no leaks and he doesn't think they need a rebuild, but I'm not really concerned about that, as a rebuild isn't rocket science.

I think I could sell my current setup for about $275ish. Bilstein Tundra 5100 (~5000 miles) and OME 881 (unknown mileage) so I would only be about 175 for the set. What are your thoughts?
