KING Suspension Owners, rear bumpstop set ups

I am about to install my extended travel rear shocks and was wondering what the proper hardware was to run the shocks with icon 2 inch springs and 33’s. I’ve been calling local shops and have received advice from run 2 inch bumpstop spacers to get king hydraulic bumps.
Been getting a lot of differing opinions on how much “spacer” to run and I just want to make sure I don’t damage my shocks.
Wondering what everyone else was running (bump brand/model and in conjunction with any spacers/how much spacer?), don’t think I’ll need hydraulic for now and was interested in running the wheelers superbumps, timbrens or plasticguys bumps however I am unsure how thick of spacers I need to run with those.
Hey
Appreciate the help guys!

Assuming the stroke length is .5 inches longer, I've heard from others recommended bump stop spacing should be .5 or just a hair more to match. Ideally, cycle the suspension so that the bump engages before shock bottoms out. Wheelers does make the taller softer bumps, but sell the spacers to account for longer travel rear

I spoke with Ben from Filthy Motorsports after placing my order for Kings, also with extended rear (with Toytec Superflex 2” rear springs). He recommended the Toytec 2” bump stop spacer, I took his word for it. I don’t think you really need or want noisy hydraulic bumps stops, but they do look cool haha. My suspension is going on today, good luck with yours!

I have the same Toytec spacers to go with custom length rears. I took Filthy Motorsports’ word for it as well, listening to them proved to be a mistake regarding other aspects but I don’t have no issues with the Toytec bump stops.

What were the mistakes?

The gx460 air suspension model has different longer and softer bump stops because they don't have them in the springs. Might be worth looking at as an alternative. Never used them. But they look promising to me.

I run the icon hydraulic bumpstops in the coils, axle bumpstops still stock height on KING extended travel rear shocks

Timbrens...they are great.

If you want my toytec spacers from my old lift, i'll set them aside for you. Moving to the Bay at the end of the month.

What were the mistakes?

They quoted me 4-6 week lead time at the time of ordering and he talked about what tweaks he wanted to do over stock for the valving. It took over 15 weeks. They never mentioned the valving again so I can only assume they were not custom valved the way we discussed. They told me King sent the wrong rears and they weren’t custom length, then said they were actually the correct custom length ones once they measured them... apparently the “experts” couldn’t tell the difference?! After the problems they were going to go through everything with a fine tooth comb and double check and verify everything was good to go. Yet I went to install and I was missing a few parts, missing washers, 4 of the 8 hose clamps to mount the reservoir weren’t there and the the ones that were included were 2 small to fit around the reservoirs. They had told me flat out do not adjust preload, they are already set for 2” lift I wanted straight out of the box, so I install them and it’s a 1 inch lift. They said well your vehicle must be optioned heavier than normal because even your before measurements were low... it’s not heavier, the only added weight was aluminum skids and the before measurements were right in line with every other stock 5th gens measurements I’ve seen. I called King and they said they never ship them with added preload and out of the box should be about an inch of lift. When I relayed that info to Filthy they blamed King for not following the build sheet they spec’d... what happened to go over my suspension, they didn’t notice the adjusters were topped out for the minimum preload even as he’s showing me how to add preload after they settle if need be?

All in all they just kinda seemed like a joke, they talk a big game about how they are Kings top dealer and they have this knowledge, they don’t do sales because nobody in the business can match their level of expertise and service, blah blah blah but when it came time to put up or shut up they didn’t seem to know jack shit about anything that was actually relevant. I had high hopes buying from them, especially being a local company 10 minutes away but man, what a huge disappointment buying from them. Waste of time and money, if I could do it over I would have saved money and taxes buying them online from an authorized retailer, I gained zero benefit or knowledge from spensing a little extra to buy the from the “best”.

I have the toytecs, but might move on to wheelers...

I don't know if I'll feel any difference, but since the toytecs, use factory rubber, you will know when you hit those bump stops... its not pleasant.

I"m hoping the wheelers will have some more gives than the OEM rubbers.

Basically, I"m not happy with the toytecs........and I"m going to replace them. I"m just not sure if the wheelers will be any better.

I can't go with hydraulics since I'm running air bags in the rear.

Thanks for the feedback I’m thinking you should be able to use the superbumps on top of the toytecs right?

well the superbumps are supposedly height adjustable. I"m hoping to use them outright and replace the toytecs.

Since I have the toytecs and airbags, getting superbumps isn't high on my to do list, but its something I will do in the future.

Hopefully, someone will answer your question on whether or not, the superbumps are good enough as standalone on ET kings....(that i can't answer).

has anyone noticed the toytec rear extensions offset the bump stop an inch or so? i haven't seen how it aligns when making contact, but since it's concave to fit the axle housing i would assume it's not striking in the center.

that said, i currently have toytec extensions with kings/dobinson's 3" coils, but am swapping to the icon hydraulics and Plastics guy rear bumps when they become available. replacing oem with his front set this weekend

Hey Assassin,

The information that you received about the 2" spacers w/oem bumps is correct for use with your extended Kings. This has been the go-to solution for many years. It does work to keep your shock from over compressing, but as others have mentioned, that OEM bump stop is hard! On hard impacts it has a tendency to throw the truck back up and unsettle the rear end at higher speeds (like 15 mph+).

Hydro's are Awesome!!! and then they aren't...lol. They can be noisy is one issue, cost another, but the biggest issue is that if your really going to rail your truck across the desert hard enough to actually use those Hydro bumps you will also need to do extensive frame stiffening to prevent the factory frame from twisting.

And then there is the middle road. The Plastics Guy bump stops! Why haven't I been an option for years you ask? Because we just started up this year! you'll be hearing more and more about us as time comes :trophy:. I'm not here to bash any of the competition in any way or try to steal a sale. They have all done there best with there products and I have been a customer myself. I just happen to have something that is unique and different now that is a game changer in our small world of bump stops. If you browse these threads here on T4R.org and other forums you can see the step by step process that it has been and the off-road community effort that really built and designed my bump stops. I just happen to be the man to put it all together :thumb3:

Just the guy I was hoping would jump into this thread. I think I'll do the spacers and then run your rear bumps once they are out.
