Kings Vs. Icon, more confused now than ever

Sounds about right...but they're also trying to sell ya something.

I'd be interested in what owners on the forum who live in those environments have experienced as well. Again, for me, not an issue because of where I live, but something I'd consider if I lived in such an environment.

All that aside...I do looooooooove my Icons so far!

Any of the big 3 will require additional maintenance when compared to OEM or something with rubber bushings vs. heims, my guess is that in a harsher environment....it just requires more.

So like everyone Icon and Kings are very high on my list. Ive read countless threads comparing the two.. Sounds like both are great choices BUT there are outlier reviews that are completely opposite of what the bulk of people say.



I want smoothing riding, and I don't understand the difference between Digressive and progressive springs?

Overkill imo as others have said...run Bilsteins 5100 with Wheelers T1/T13 springs! Not only will you eliminate nose dive, you will be sitting well over 2 inches higher than a Pro (I would pass on oem Pro suspension).

i have bill 5100 on mine for 3 years... not sure if its the terrible roads of milwaukee or the weather but they are done. I can move the shock tube around and there is play from the shaft... Makes my rear end seem like its failing apart with rattles when i go over bumps.

I have icons i purchased on black friday i am going to - i plan on running the sleeves to try and help the salt stay off of them.

Sure my truck never sees off road but come to wisconsin/milwaukee and i bet you some of these roads are more harsh then the terrain some of you call off road! :caked: jk

Toytech Boss here. Bought the Boss for extended travel since I have KDSS. The ride is obviously different than stock, but I like it better. I got 4" lift from the skid to the ground. I did not get the stronger springs in the back and I am completely level. Almost wish I would have gotten the stronger springs, but then again if I would have gotten them I might have preferred the less strong springs. Not sure if the stronger ones would have given me more rear clearance.

Looking for max 1” lift to basically mimic the pro but I’m sure aftermarket can do better than OE pro suspension.

Definitely does not hurt to reach out to a couple of vendors

Bilstein 5100's a great choice here.

They will come out of the box at the OEM Setting. You can adjust the
Ride-Height to get the lift you are looking for up front.

They have different springs and struts based on the weight you have and the height you want. Very affordable. Few people here have them on theirs and ride is smooth both on road and on trails.

This is the suspension I will be going to. Right not I am on TRD bilstiens 4100s with much added weight.

For the most part, you can adjust any coilover to 1" lift. Most coilovers offer 0" to 3" or more of lift, and you can adjust your lift anywhere in between that. All 3 you have listed (Icon, Fox, and King) are great choices. To be an Icon or a King you definitely have to pay, but I run Icons and I love em. That was just my choice, but there are tons of coilover options for a 1" lift.

I bought icons from total automotive (along with many other goodies). CALL THESE GUYS and talk to them. They are insanely well-informed and happy to walk you through it all. Spent a good 45 min on the phone asking 8 million questions. Ended up with icons. Getting installed today, I’ll report back after my Death Valley trip next week!

After talking to a few people I think I have eliminated Icons from my list. Mainly due to customer service. If money was no object I would get Kings... unfortunately like everyone else I do have a budget.

I have decided to get OME BP51 on the front and I hope to maybe do the Metal Tech long travel rear. That is the plan anyhow... we all know how that goes... lol

I am still waiting to chat with a few more vendors and get somemore opinions.
