Knight Rider Hood Scoop Mod . . .

Pretty much any color is illegal in most states. Red and blue are always reserved for fire/police. Green can either be ambulance squad or security, depending on your state. White is typically used to augment an official emergency vehicle. Amber is always road hazard/construction.
MOST states do require permits for even amber, but I HAVE NEVER heard of ANYONE ever getting pulled over, nevermind a ticket, for displaying amber. I've actually never even seen a permit.

My advice- If you get an LED flasher such as mine and ONLY use it "off" road, you cannot get a ticket. Since the lens is clear it is legal to have mounted on the car on the road when not turned on. Off road, you can use any color you want.

Want to play it safe? Get a light that flashes amber.
 
Ha! no exterior mirror light mounts. For my next trick, sometime in the next couple of months, I am going to likely add these bad boys to the running boards, under the front door, close to the front of the truck, to help get through intersections:

I'd love to get the mount that allows you to mount them next to the rear license plate, one on each side, but I am not sure about running the wire back up into the rear hatch, up through the paneling, through to the roof, and then down the sides of the rear interior.

Steve, haven't seen you on here for a while! Yes, you deserve credit, you did do the mod. first. You have to switch to a 911EP though to get the knight rider effect :)
 
That looks pretty sweet. I have the 911EP WL28 stick in the back window on my squad and I know the exact pattern. Nice effect.

Thanks, I think it is pretty funny. I never use my lights anyway, but it cracks the guys up at the firehouse. :)
 
Well I finally did this mod! But I didn't quite use the LED bar shown. Good gawd that thing is bright!.


What I've done is mounted the LED bar into the area

It's very tiny... it uses the cellphone blue LED's... so it's tiny pin point brightness.


It goes on when my alarm is armed... and it shuts off when the alarm is disarmed...


The LED bar he installed would drain my battery in like 5 minutes! this tiny thing can go on for a month and the truck can still start. It doesn't fill the whole grille though... I placed it in the middle of the grille... it's not very big... about 2 inches long only. 5 led's.. kinda looks like this... but smaller

FF here, too! I like the mod,but I can't use blue even being a firefighter. That is reserved for police in Florida. I can, though, use 'red'. I think I will strongly consider doing something similar. Also, probably seems a dumb question, but I guess you respond POV. Are you volunteer? Do you respond of duty?

Yup, I am a volunteer. I'd rather have red lights here too, less confusion, but the state of CT has yet to ask my opinion :)

Here on Long Island we are volunteer.We have to respond to the fire house to get the truck out and are never off duty.

As a department we are always on 365 days/year, but personally, I work 24 hours on/48 hours off. I can't see myself ever having done something else.
