KO2 vs ST MAXX vs Wildpeak AT3W

255-80-17 st max as well here, great during Canadian winters. I didn't expect traction to be good on ice and it was better than i thought. I have little bit of wandering at highway speeds. I don't think its a tire though. I commute every day with my truck. Lots of highway driving. Can't hear tire noise because of exhaust dumps after cats and cai.

I really like them. Only other tire I've had has been the Toyo AT2 in a 32" though. The falken's are quieter on road, and so far just as good or better off road.

Not sure if available in 275 80, but for me the most tempting tire in 275 75 is Firestone MT2.

It is a new, supposedly state-of-the-art MT tire, it has 3-ply sidewall in LT-C and weighs 47lb same as my SL Wildpeaks.

But it costs nearly double my SL Wildpeaks in 265 70 and I highly doubt I will get any more miles from the MT2s even if the start at 18 vs 13/32 for the Wildpeak.

That and the Cooper Maxx have caught my eye as heavy duty offroad tires with some on road positives. I would expect the Maxx to last longer than the MT2, probably a lot longer. Discount Tire has the MAxx as 51,000 median mileage from their store data. They do not offer the MT2, however. LTC KO2 is 59,000 miles median, P265 70 Wildpeak they have at 54,000.

There is no way I will keep mine for more than 30,000 (I would not use them under 5/32 offroad and under 6 is pushing it). Right now I project them at between 25-30,000, up from 22-25,000 as wear has improved. To get to 30,000, I need to get 1/32 per 6,000 miles from now on, which seems doable but who knows.

When it comes to rolling resistance, which matters more, weight or tire width? I’ve been leaning toward the Cooper 255/80/17s because I’ve had great experiences with different Coopers on different trucks, but this thread has me thinking otherwise. I have Falkens on my Outback and like them so far. If the Falken 255/80/17s are lighter I may go that direction if they have a slight MPG advantage.

I ended up going a totally different direction.

I found the Toyo Open Country AT2 for $161 on Amazon. I got discount tire to pricematch the tire and will be getting another 10% off with their Memorial day weekend promo, bring cost per tire down to about $145 each.

Too good of a deal to pass up.

I use my tires hard, and have ran 2 of the 3 tires here... the STMAXX and the Falkens. I crossed the country 6 times in my stmaxx tires and have not 1 complaint. They were a wonderful tire. I recently purchased the AT3WS because I upsized from a 255/80/17 to a 285/75/17 and they were cheaper thru a friend... I just mapped the red clay rally using them. I absolutely love them as well, however don't have the miles on them to give a fair review. I'm sure they will be a fine tire as well.
