Hello to everyone, I have been reading great posts on this thread since sometime in 08. Now I finally have my own 3rd Gen T4R so, its time to start my first build thread!:D

First of, its a dark green 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited 2WD. Yes thats right a 2WD. Some sacrifices had to be made for me to get a t4r, unfortunately 4WD is one huge one.:moping: I still have the same plans on what i want to do with it, its just I can't be as hardcore as some on this forum. Oh well its my first car!

I got it for $3800 after negotiations, he was asking for $5000. I think that it was fair. The paint on the hood is highly oxidized on the hood and roof. From a quick glance, not a speck of rust on the bottom of the vehicle.

Before I bought it, I had it taken over to firestone for a look at whats in store repair wise.

To Do:
everything on the firestone report
lift
tires
rims
roof rack
front bumper
winch
snorkel(maybe)
paint
satoshi
plasti-dip
get rid of pink stickers
get rid of tiger steering wheel cover
windsheild
rear bumper and/or tire mount
Repair front seats
new head unit

Done:
Liberated from certain doom in a driveway.

Update

Okay Huge Update sorry for this long long post, a lot was done to the 4runner this weekend, well more than I expected anyways. Friday was the first time I've seen the car since I test drove it. I had a friend over that wanted to help out on the build, he may have been converted to a t4r! But most likely he will stick to his original plan of getting a Camero.... Oh well, his car. Anyways back to the build. Here are some interior shots.

Today I decided to take a razor blade to the clear coat. The whole process was a little sketchy and I wouldn't recommend it because I gained a lot of scratches on the hood. It does look better though and yes I do plan on re clearcoating it. I still don't know if I want to straight up rhino line the whole hood, paint the whole car silver, or just re clear coat the hood. There is also a lot of pealing clear coat on the roof. Ammonia on a rag loosens up the clear coat a bit if its dried. Pics,

Great first ride! Looks like you're off to a good start giving it some good TLC. Good to see someone appreciate their first car. I saw way too many cars go to sh*t in HS because the kids just didn't treat them well.

I almost settled for a miata believe it or not, I am so glad that I didn't. It is 4Runner builds like yours that inspire me to maintain and upgrade this t4r. I will try my best to not let this t4r turn to sh*t!

Short weekend update, after some thinking, I decided to drive over to the local maaco paint shop to see what's up over there. I ended up leaving it there. I chose the supreme job which is the 3rd out of 4 options. The bill came up to $1450 but the guy lowered it to $640 because I was about to leave because I don't have the money to waist on a $1450 paint job when the car needs $1600 in work. Rhino lining the hood sounded really good at this point. So anyway the color I am going to is a type of silver metallic, I think its going to look really good. After that a new windshield will go in. I ordered t4r and trd stickers. It's going to be awsome.

Next weekends tasks -
Mount fj40 logo on grill
Wheels go black
Place t4r and trd stickers.

Cool! Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's back from paint!

Maaco, doesn't have a very good name around here......but I've heard some good things from US folks about them.....I've considered a color change to mine a couple of times....but the Evergreen Pearl kinda grew on me!

You're really doing a good job of taking care of that thing.....KEEP IT UP MAN! :)

nice magpul sticker..

have one on my rig too..

keep it up mate..
They are great looking stickers and make a good product!

I'm right there with you, I can't wait to see this thing in silver! Yea the Maaco over here is kind of sketchy too, so I'm kind of on edge, I hope I can get some pics up tomorrow. The sad thing is, while I was in Maaco, I looked out the window at the 4runner and right then the green started to grow on me but that paint had to go.. Thanks!

dude nice runner, great price, time for some prerunner style mods for desert running

Thanks! never thought of that.

nice nice nice! what part of houston you in?

West Houston / Katy, we should meet up and go wheeling some day!
