A few years ago I was in invalid for about a year. I had a tight femoral nerve in my pelvis caused by tight hamstrings (didn't know it at the time though). I was pulling it apart at one of the junctions in the nerve when I moved muscles. It started off after I over exerted myself in a run race as pain and I went to the physiotherapist and she made me do exercises which pulled it apart even more and made it worse. Then I went to a doctor who did the same and made it even worse. He sent me to another doctor who forced me to push / pull and make it much worse. I almost passed out from the pain. I am lucky he didn't sever my nerve completely. He is lucky too because I would have sued for a million $$. All they could tell me was I had nerve damage. My leg wasted away to nothing due to atrophy from lack of nerve signal. And edema in the area was cutting off blood supply to my leg too because the main artery and vein go right through there. It was pain hell.
I thought I was going to die because I didn't know what the issue was. The doctors were worried I had a tumour in my spine, but the scans didn't show anything. Eventually one day my body just decided enough was enough. My mind got in on it too, it was weird, I just had a change of my whole attitude towards it, and it was time to get better. I decided to try stretching my hamstrings (touch my toes). Voila, my problem was solved. The problem is that my disorder has never been documented before so no one knew what it was. I was telling them it was a nerve injury, that I was pulling the nerve but even the sports medicine doctor who deals with nerve entrapment as one of the most common sports injuries, wouldn't believe me: "there is nothing there to pull!". Umm, my nerve?????
So I made a huge recovery in about a week and was walking again but I had many months to go to rebuild my patellar tendon which had sustained previous damage from overuse tendonitis (that sports injury was the first thing that triggered my inactivity which made my hamstrings tight and started the whole spiral downwards).
It took about a year for all the sensation and pain to disappear but I have made a 99.9% recovery, the only thing I am pissed off about is they sent me for a bone scan and filled me full of radiation, and even told me to stay away from children... who knows if that will come back to haunt me in future years.
Overall, I have to say that the doctors I have dealt with in my life have been mostly incompetent and usually leave me worse off than when I went in, with wrong diagnoses.
Isn't there some operation they can do for you? Maybe go to a different country.
