Kotrin 3rd Gen...Adventure

Just read through your build/history. Very cool 4Runner but what a story. Inspirational to say the least. Keep at it and keep that build going. If you ever make it to Tampa, drinks are on me!

Trip Report & Thank you all for the reads and comments lately....

So I had put it out to others if they wanted to join me today or tomorrow, along with other weekends coming up. Next weekend my dad is going out to a place call Hilltop (Private rock crawling/mud/trail area). I've been there a few times and it's a neat place, wish I had that acreage. So today was kinda a last minute thing as I've been struggling over the last week with some more than normal depression and hoping going out would help, as it normally does for the most part.

So snow level was down to 2,000ft and temperatures barely above 35F @ Detroit Lake, OR. Did some different trails, ran into snow right away and things were going well. We were kinda going on a roudabout way to Olallie Lake Loop area as someone last minute messaged my dad and wanted to come out with us. Finally ran into them at the start of the top of the loop and ran into fresh snow, first ones again to break trail, one of my favorite things is finding new snow. I was in the middle, dad in front of me and his friend behind me. Both rigs around me running 37's, SASs, Locked and armored. We finally reached a point of where on the side of a hill the snow was about a foot and my dad couldn't go anymore. Slipping and sliding to a pre-cariously end that caused us to stop and back down 1/2 mile to a semi-turn-around.

We decided to just explore more random trails as we headed back to my dad's trailer. The trails started to get more rocky, which I go slow and gentle to my best degree. Somewhere on the last trail I felt the pain lance through my side(where my spinal cord was crushed from before). I was having trouble breathing or moving ontop of loss of feeling beyond normal. Not sure whats wrong yet as I'm laying down and on a lot of medicine. I will see how I am tomorrow, may end up going into the ER. So yeah....sigh :(

Here's a few more pictures..

Requested Pictures

Some people have asked me for more pictures so I took some more pictures. I swear I did this at one other time, but doesn't appear I did.

So not a lot of change so far. Wish I could find a doctor who would actually support my needsj versus a paycheck..sigh

I wish I was better as its going to snow again this week :(

Medical - Update

So I thought I posted something but I was under Diulated, Morphine, Oxy, Zofran & Gabapentin last night. During a drive to drop something off at my Son's I noticed continued weakening in my legs. Immediately to the doctors to ER for 10 hours, 3 bulging discs, loss of right leg use + some other loss of lower area & increase pain & discomfort, yay :(

So next 5 days of doing almost nothing. Taking it easy and see how things turn out.

Hope you recover man.

This is pretty badass, is that back window functional?

Yeah completely. Everything works :)

I posted those pictures because when I posted my snow trip on the 4Runner of reddit people asked for more back pictures and reddit doesn't let you add pictures in a reply, have to start a new thread and wasn't going to do that.

I purchased a few LED upgrades courtesy of my mom (love you mom), who also is dealing with similar to my issues. But anyways...I hope to get them done along with my custom TPMS if it all works.

So more bad news on top of bad news. It's been 5 days and I still can't lift or do anything with my left leg. My right leg is still horrible and beyond words in frustration/pain and more. Now my dad just purchased an early to me Christmas present (Handi-cap controls. I'm going to attempt to use those to do some test driving and see how things go. It does basically tell me I will not be doing my lift or SC at all. I have enough issues getting in now but wouldn't think of doing any lowering or what not. Love it to much just makes me massively depressed....

I'll let you know how the controls go after Thanksgiving since it won't be installed till first week of December.

PS - I wish no one to have to deal with what I've dealt with & dealing with. But if you are, see a specialist and don't do anything to make things worse (thinking you feel better than ya are...) Cause you will end up like me..

A few years ago I was in invalid for about a year. I had a tight femoral nerve in my pelvis caused by tight hamstrings (didn't know it at the time though). I was pulling it apart at one of the junctions in the nerve when I moved muscles. It started off after I over exerted myself in a run race as pain and I went to the physiotherapist and she made me do exercises which pulled it apart even more and made it worse. Then I went to a doctor who did the same and made it even worse. He sent me to another doctor who forced me to push / pull and make it much worse. I almost passed out from the pain. I am lucky he didn't sever my nerve completely. He is lucky too because I would have sued for a million $$. All they could tell me was I had nerve damage. My leg wasted away to nothing due to atrophy from lack of nerve signal. And edema in the area was cutting off blood supply to my leg too because the main artery and vein go right through there. It was pain hell.

I thought I was going to die because I didn't know what the issue was. The doctors were worried I had a tumour in my spine, but the scans didn't show anything. Eventually one day my body just decided enough was enough. My mind got in on it too, it was weird, I just had a change of my whole attitude towards it, and it was time to get better. I decided to try stretching my hamstrings (touch my toes). Voila, my problem was solved. The problem is that my disorder has never been documented before so no one knew what it was. I was telling them it was a nerve injury, that I was pulling the nerve but even the sports medicine doctor who deals with nerve entrapment as one of the most common sports injuries, wouldn't believe me: "there is nothing there to pull!". Umm, my nerve?????

So I made a huge recovery in about a week and was walking again but I had many months to go to rebuild my patellar tendon which had sustained previous damage from overuse tendonitis (that sports injury was the first thing that triggered my inactivity which made my hamstrings tight and started the whole spiral downwards).

It took about a year for all the sensation and pain to disappear but I have made a 99.9% recovery, the only thing I am pissed off about is they sent me for a bone scan and filled me full of radiation, and even told me to stay away from children... who knows if that will come back to haunt me in future years.

Overall, I have to say that the doctors I have dealt with in my life have been mostly incompetent and usually leave me worse off than when I went in, with wrong diagnoses.

Isn't there some operation they can do for you? Maybe go to a different country.

Not sure if you've read my entire story but this started because they crushed my spinal cord. The recent ordeal happened because I bounced (and we are talking speed bump bouncing) and I felt the twinge/tweak. For some reason things just didn't work right and I took it easy like I've done in the past for recovery. Normally after 7 days I actually start to get back to more of a normal situation (my normal, not the healthy people normal =D ). So I had called my doctor because I noticed that my right leg wasn't (couldn't feel it) & certain lower parts of my body wasn't working anymore to put it blunt. The doctor finally was able to see me on Tuesday & after I dropped my sons stuff off at his mom's (just a 30 mile round trip) I knew something was really scary wrong cause my left leg didn't want to work. Always have been able to drive cause it's never bothered me before.

By the time I saw the doctor I couldn't move my left leg, the right leg was like it is now and private things weren't working or even feeling things. Eight hours in the Emergency Room got me my MRI to show multiple herniated discs which they believe crushed my spinal cord again. The loss of feeling directly = where I received my herniated discs are (so that is a good thing in anut shell for not a unknown).

In regards to doctors fixing me, I'm kinda a loss case. This has started over 8 years ago. I've seen 6 different Physical therapists (and lots did what yours did, Push you to far causing MORE damage). Saw 4 different spinal specialist in Portland/Vancouver area. Each one did something different. The first did some bulging disc trimming + fusion. The Fusion actually did well for the first 3 years - BEAUTIFUL. I could do things i've never been able to do, so happy. Sometime around 2014 I went to tie a shoe and I was laid up (twinge/tweak in the back again). Sent to three different specialist, steriod injections, spinal cord simulator and a few other misc things to try to help. The last specailist I saw did the spinal cord simulator. The trial was like the fusion, helped SO MUCH!!!. During the simple surgery they knicked a blood vessel and filled my spinal cord crushing it. Ever since this point things have been bad....

...After the surgery I've seen two new specialist. Each say they DO NOT want to do anything unless absolutely. I'm seeing the specialist in the new few weeks but they may do the surgery anyways because of the loss of movement. They feel the risk is worth the reward (getting soem feeling back versus permantely losing it all...)

I'lll see what happens as things go on but I am SOL....

Yeah I knew it was from crushing so I didn't want to imply that it would be as simple as stretching your hamstrings. Nerve damage is nothing to kid around with. Any other injury, you can push through it but not nerve injuries. But I was amazed how fast mine healed after the problem was fixed. All you have to do is remove the thing poking them. Not so easy to do with a spinal cord though. Can't you sue over the operation that flooded the spine with blood? The doctor will have insurance to cover it.

So on top of everything else wrong with my spinal cord I have face disease and Degenerative Disc Discorder. My understanding is with ths combination it's a never ending pushing/knicking my spinal cord area. Now I know that things can come back and I hope that things will change. I hope things do make a turn but i'm very sure that my original plans of upgrade/changing stuff will never happen. I had these dreams of granduer of my truck and it's almost non-existent now cause I wouldn't be able to be right in the head if I did my SC + Icon Stage 5 and this happened again.

But yes, nerve damage is not a joke. The Docotor who caused the damage is supporting my Disability claim. When I spoke to my attorneys about Mal Practice suit, they said you had to find someone in that room during the surgery to point the finger at the person doing the wrong. Trying to prove this is incredible difficult and wouldn't help me long term.

I hate dealing with doctors.....even my current one helping with my PCP/Painmanagement is incedibly frustrating. I tell him what is wrong, what I need and he doesn't give me anything to meet me even halfway. It's like Iask for x & y AND he gives me A :(

Completely understand that people have abused the system and I have to deal with the onslaught, fine. But I know that I need to get better and you gotta do adjustments and such. Agree BUT they don't seem to understand. And honest. Unless you've been in the situation you know it's difficult to comprehend/understand whats happening. Glad your situation got turned around and you at least got on the right track.

Only if you believe you are. I can't know what's it's like to go through what you are going through. I do know someone who does though. I'm proud to call him a friend both before and after his accident. I wish you the best with your recovery and to further adjusting to the new normal. Hope these help a bit.

I haven't given up yet. Giving up is my 4Runner appearing for sale. As you are aware of it takes not only your friend but others to assist. Some it seems I used to consider friends think more of it as a inconvenience and haven't been my friends since my accident 2 years ago. My plan is still to do as much as possible, but changed drastically on future plans. My lift & SC like I was so excited seems to be a less 'ideal' way to go forward with money...the Lift is still a good possibility but I will have to look at other ways to get in & out of the 4Runner. I have a few idea's but it's, as you are aware of, takes more thinking and outside the box stuff...

Thank you though theesotericone .

The SOL was more reference to more cutting doesn't = good stuff, but sometimes cutting = (a few years of the ability to do things with more restriction/loss in the future). I'm of the mindset I would rather do more NOW and deal with loss later just cause it will happen later anyways...
