Krawl Control

Curious question, how many of you that have a TE actually use the Krawl control?

It's waaay to aggressive, the entire truck sounds like it's going to shatter itself apart.

I like to set it to H and ghost ride around the subdivision.

Weeeest side beeotch.

I could see an inexperienced guy using it maybe. I have tried it just to see and it works well. Off road cruise control.

I use it a fair bit.

Here's what I've found:
 • Works well for steep descents on loose rock where engine braking doesn't slow you down enough and using the brakes causes you to slide
 • Works well for steep climbs with obstacles
 • Works as a last ditch before you get out the straps or winch
 • Does not work for obstacles that require a lot of finesse like left foot braking or bumping over something
 • Does not work well on icy hill climbs or descents

I've had a couple of times where I was stuck and lockers and ATRAC didn't help. Tried the crawl control and it pulled me out. I know some "hard core" guys are going to make it sound like they're above using it, but those are probably the same guys who call using a locker cheating until they get one and use it all the time. Meh, whatever.

I only tried it in wet conditions going over small logs and rutted trail. I was not even close to being stuck. In retrospect, I can see how it would be good in the conditions you described. I was thinking just normal off road conditions and not specific cases. Hows the weather in the east where you live in Nova Scotia?

Yeah, it's really intended for more difficult situations I think. I remember the first time I used it trying to crawl up a steep wall out of a mud pit. At one point the tires lost traction and the truck stopped, crawl control stopped turning the tires while the computer recalculated, then a second later it kicked in again and pulled me up.

Cold and wet, but not as cold as out here in Calgary.

Plus 1 to Intruder's experience.

I don't use it often, but in certain situations, it works very well. CRAWL replaces DAC on SR5/LE, and works extremely well for that.

The one place it really saved me from a very long night of backtracking, was a series of steep grades in bottomless deep snow. Tires were flat, every combination of momentum, ATRAC, locker, shut down every time. CRAWL made it, just barely, and it took a while, but it made it.

Used it only a few times. It works well if you can put up with the chatter. Worked wonderfully when I stopped on soft sand and could not launch without digging in deeper.

Your live in NS? Me too, where about?

I'm actually in Calgary. It's a running joke from another thread where 1engineer said I was out east. Since then he's said I'm in Newfoundland and now NS. I expect the next one will be either NB or PEI.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: :crazy:

So really getting a TE without KDSS has no real advantage over an SR5 model assuming you don't use the crawl control. I guess one could argue that the TE has a locker when in 4 lo where the SR5 doesn't?

The locker can be a pretty big advantage depending on who you talk to...
