Krypto's Camping/Expedition Build

I can't believe I got called 'man' twice in one post. :lmao:

(sure, I see it's not specifically, but I am still amused)

At the bottom of the schematic page it shows the limited flares, not sure if it's a different part number or not-or if that's what you need.

'05, '19, my sister's schooling went a lot like that out of necessity. Now she's a nurse and she's happy. You'll get it, just gotta make it that last little bit.

No that looks like the part. I'm missing at least 5 from over the years lol. They seemed expendable at the time.

Kryptoroxx, Like the bumper, deer shouldn't be a problem from the front, they seem to find a way to leave a mark somewhere.
The screw grommet your looking for can be had at clipsandfasteners.com have them cheaper than dealer.

I'm going with your suggestion habanero. It's a cheap and effective solution for what I need.

So far they've survived being mildly rubbed against trees and rocks, and having wheels stuffed against them. The rear mounting was pretty flat so pretty easy, the front took a bit more thought because of the angles. To get the mud flap part away from the tire I made a small bracket attached to the bolt that's a couple inches back from the wheel well My husband says they're pretty hoopty but I've never cared about that stuff....Kanoe's mudflap would likely be more not-hoopty.

Credit for the idea of belting goes to 92toy.

I ended up finding some semi mudflaps for 40 bucks for the pair. They're flipping huge! Must be for the rear because most semis would not take this for the steer tire.

My supplies have grown substantially. I have new plastic splash guards, rubber mats, fenders (1 3/4"), and also some misc electrical parts to add this week. Sadly I had to get a rental car for two weeks but I should be done with everything by Friday. Lots of pics to come

Those mudflaps should be interesting to see!

You've been busy, looking forward to those pics. :)

Ha ha....one more. Got the other side done and the cs144 alternator is spinning smoothly.

More pics this weekend. Much more coming soon too!

Sorry, definitely longer than the weekend. I was able to get everything fixed so now she's fully functional again.

Headlights needed to be fixed but it ended up being a loose connection and new bulbs but it gave signs of other things being wrong so the troubleshooting took longer than I like.

The CS144 is purring nicely under the hood and I am very happy with it. Now this summer I can add the York compressor on for OBA and find a good location for the tank somewhere.

The fenders and mudflaps work tremendously well. I was a little worried about clearance but the semi mudflaps are very stiff and hand pretty much vertically. When everything was attached the amount of mounts I was able to use actually made the flap itself pretty convex in the front which increased the clearance while turning. I'd say I ended up with 1.5 inches of clearance off the tire and it should be safe. They're also long enough that at full stuff the tire is not rubbing on the lower edge of the mudflap so the possibility of folding the mudflap under and ripping it out is slim IMO.

Lots of new things coming soon. I was secretly thinking about turning the ol girl in but a solid replacement Tacoma with low miles was simply too much to consider right now. With that being said here's the budgeted updates under review that would put the 4runner back into a comfortable DD that sees some trail action now and then. Why DD? I face off with too many deer to do a sedan of some sort and a new truck doesn't provide enough benefit financially to outweigh the maintenance costs of the list below.

-Suspension Bushings (probably OEM or Strongflex) for the rear and front.
-All Pro UCA
-Pink Top injectors
-Stereo - Atota Android HU, Component set up front, fill for the rear door, and a 12" sub stuffed into the rear tool compartment all powered by a single digital 5 channel amp.
-Door Seals - those are getting close to toast
-Windshield Replacement - one more rock chip and I think I'll lose it.
-99 Console mod
-Gas Tank relocation and body lift
-York 210 install (dual pulley off CS144 so some things will be moved around under the hood)
-High clearance rear bumper to protect the fuel tank
-Sliders maybe
-Rear faceplate replacement with fiberglass reinforcement (tire carrier required modification of it)
Projector headlight retrofit (hopefully a dual projector)
-Rear Disc upgrade with a parking brake

Already done
Rear liftgate struts replaced
Rear striker assembly replaced (door and body)
LED light upgrade (except headlights)
Monstaliner touch up
Alternator upgraded
Headlight wiring and bulbs replaced
Pacer fenders installed
Mudflaps installed

73 days till graduation......Looking at grad school in the fall or maybe something else. Lots of things changing quickly around here.

All of the parts! Amazon and Rock Auto are definitely the best way to get Yota parts around here.

Bad pic of the engine bay but it's tidy and clean

CS144 installed. So it's not that great of a pic but the York should fit right in beside the power steering pump if I rotate the battery and shift some of the electrical stuff around. It's going to get kind of cramped in there but I decided it would still fit with a supercharger stuffed in (eventually, not in the near future)

Just a picture of my arch enemy. I actually missed the shot. There were 8 of them. Worst neighbors ever.

Better pic with the fenders and mudflaps. I actually need to adjust some of the mudflaps so they match but for now they function very well and the fenders I thought came out very well too. There's much less snow and water on the side of the truck and they don't create a void in between the body and the fender for moisture to sit either.

Pure glory shot but it was pretty weather for tooling around in the 4runner.

Came over here from Facebook as promised... can't see your tire carrier pics for some reason....

Judging from the comments... sounds like you did all the right improvements. As you said in your previous posts... props to Thorrider for trying it... and showing us how NOT to do it.... It made it possible for us to learn from his mistakes, and improve the design. :yo:

I am not 100% what is going on with that. I uploaded them all to tapatalk which now seems to be completely useless. I'll have to work on getting another picture hosting service I guess. I've been through 3 so far.

Finally got around to projectors for an upgrade. Man what a difference. Bambi is now visible. I didn't do anything fancy with these. I need to tweak the aiming a little as well and finish all the wiring up for the parking lights and turn signals. In the end I think I will be happy.

Trying to see if there is a way to wire in a drl circuit on a 98 that I can control. I know the stalks from the later models won't work with the steering column but any ideas are always appreciated.

How has your 2nd gen tire carrier held up over the years?
Still as sturdy as ever. I am hoping to get a redesign in with improvements as the heim joints are going to need to be replaced at some point. The Michigan winters have not been kind. It's only rust to the joints themselves and doesn't effect the tire carrier at all but the redesign would look more polished and I could probably keep the curves closer to the body.

I did remove it two years ago just to check everything and so far so good. No body damage, rust, or weakening of the mount point was detected.

A changing of the guard has taken place. My 3rd gen will be going on to do bigger and better things with someone else. However I will still float around and will have a new build thread sometime soon.

What shrouds are those? Did you get it from the retrofit source?

Yep. I can't remember the name off the top of my head but here's a better photo of the headlights. I didn't like the chrome so I busted that off and painted matte black.

So I had forgotten that I had this issue during the summer but my washer fluid has been freezing because its exposed to the elements even with deicer.

$30 bucks at Home Depot.
2' of 3" pipe
2' of 2" pipe
3" cap
3" elbow
3 to 2" adapter.

If you can find a eccentric adapter you can tuck it a little further from the ac compressor but it's not dangerously close.

I lucked out with the stock adapter fitting in there. I had to slightly modify the rubber seal but trimming it was pretty easy.

Behold the new one
