Just wanted to let everyone know the great treatment I got at Right Toyota in Scottsdale this week. I took my 03 4Runner Sport in for the stereo being out (suddenly no sound), and to get the timing belt replaced.
Nearing 90k miles, I was needing a timing belt change. They had sent a coupon for the timing belt, and it was $481 out the door. (Not too bad considering what I've seen others on here pay.) I replaced the serp belt myself, and they didn't find anything else needing replacement; they said they are seeing well over 150k miles before these water pumps start seeping, and by that time it won't be far from another timing belt change.
The stereo problem took them a while to figure out. At first they diagnosed a bad amplifier. But the new one didn't work either. After tearing most of the inside apart, they finally chased down a short in the system.
I have the Toyota Platinum 100k mile warranty, so it covered all the stereo work. Normally this warranty only provides a rental car for repairs above $600, but this amplifier replacement was a job worth slightly less than that by Toyota's book standards. Right Toyota provided the rental car for two days - free!
Bottom line is I paid the $481 for the timing belt, and nothing else. The stereo never sounded better. They also did a nice job of washing the vehicle.
So I know we all have horror stories about the "stealer," so I just wanted to convey this. In the various times I've been in there, they have treated me like, well, platinum!
Hats off to Eddy the assistant service manager who handled this, and Jon Jones the ever enduring service manager at Right Toyota in Scottsdale!!!
BTW: The Platinum warranty I bought through a fellow forum member (Shuan) back in 2005 for $700, has now paid for itself about eight times over! Most all of these problems have been electronic/electrical - perhaps a by-product of a 1st year model towing a heavy trailer in excessive heat?
