Lack of 4runners available

I keep reading here and other places about long waits (months on end) for new runners, especially the TRD Pro (which also allows dealers to jack the price up). Is this due to a production issue or possibly that Toyota may be beginning to prepare for the next gens?

I had been looking since late last year. I was surprised to not see any 2017 4Runners. I contact Toyota, and several dealerships to get the scoop.

Turns out the 2017s weren't hitting the USA market until late Feb, early March. Toyota has since updated their website to show the 4Runners.

From the Toyota website, you can see all the 4Runners being delivered to your state. The website DOES NOT show you which dealership is getting them.

But if you go to the Edmunds.com website, you can build the model you want, then it will search the surrounding dealerships (you can select a larger search radius). When you find it, and use the Edmunds website to contact the dealership(s), you get sent an internet price. Within minutes, I had an offer for $3100 below MSRP. The problem was it was 4 hours away.

The local dealership said they could get a TRD Pro, and would go $4100 below MSRP. Turns out they were wrong. But I used a picture of their written offer to get yet another dealership to match the deal... and they had what we wanted on the lot.

NEVER pay MSRP. 2017 4Runners aren't rare, they're just new. LOTS are on the way per the Toyota website. It took me a week to source the exact one I wanted, and to get the deal I thought was fair. FWIW, there's another Barcelona Red TRD Pro in Naples FL for sale. That was the dealership offering an instant $3100 below MSRP. I'm sure I could get them to go $1000 lower!

I'm sure he's referring to Toyota's main site.. shopping tools, search inventory, put your zip code, and put what you're looking for..

For us in the Gulf States all it does is show you different accessory and option combinations and points you to your closest dealer for information. It is not a reflection of 4Runners on the ground right now at those dealers.

Toyota must just drool all over themselves at the gouging they are able to do with Pro's. Slap different color paint on there, some slightly more expensive shocks, 50 cents here and there on baubles, and wammo, $10k to the bottom line.

I just bought a 2017 with the FACT that I didn't want a 6th Gen... I'm SOOOO worried about the new 3.5 engine and tranny..... I test drove the new Tacoma and the power train with more power and better fuel drives like $hit.... The 5th Gen set-up is bullet proof (1GR) and will be a few years before(2GR) Toyota will iron out all the bugs out of it.... But that just my 2 cents....

so much hate for the TRD Pro here....I guess I will get ripped on when mine arrives...oh well..I'll just fit the stereotype and be the guy who adds a roof rack even though I'll never use it lol
 
If you don't want "NEED" something "SPESHUL"

Out here at Dolan Reno Toyota their new inventory:

2017 SR5 = 16
2017 Limited = 3
2017 TRD Off-road = 1
2016 SR5 = 2

used inventory:

2016 SR5 = 7
2016 Limited = 1
2015 SR5 = 3
2014 SR5 = 1
2013 SR5 = 1

I guess around here people buy more for utility than for color and gimmicks.
