Haha, nah it's all good. I know I'm not a hardcore offroad guy - well, yet, I guess. I was actually going to get an X5 as a daily driver since I can't handle driving a coupe every day anymore. But, after a lot of research I felt that the 4runner suited my needs a lot more
I'm excited to get the truck and look forward to some tasteful mods.
Side note - most of my closet is Banana Republic...and Billabong T-shirts for the gym...so I'll have a hard time fitting in with you Patagonia and North Face head-to-toe guys

Not hating on the TRD Pro at all, I think they're great and look top notch. But it's a fact that the upcharge does not correlate to the cost of the parts/cosmetics, not even close. Not really an argument there.

I've already learned a lot by searching through posts. You guys are very insightful with your 4runner experiences (and being the guinea pigs on mods), so I respect what you all have done to your cars and your position on what is perceived as ripoff mark ups by dealers.
I already told the dealer to remove all the bullshit dealer options they tried to add to the car before it arrives thanks to everyone posting better mods here

Running boards, windshield protectant treatment, dealer installed paint protection, remote start....the jack up MSRP at the port type stuff.
Things that I can get elsewhere...for a better price if I really need it.
It's all personal preference.
But, a person with an iota of common sense and practicality should be able to see that all PRO options are bullshit.
BUT if you really really really really really have to have that color paint, then by god, it's your duty to spend another $10-12k
A trail at least has mechanical options that can be quite useful to some people (KDSS,rear locker), and are available at a much more reasonable jump up in price, $3-4k

You and rasber3140 are both correct. If you go to the main Toyota website, and select "build & price", it asks for your zip code. That immediately kicks me over to the South East Toyota website. Once I pick what I want, I have the option to see the inventory.
As an example, here are 10 Barcelona Red TRD Pros arriving shortly:

And if you do the same at the Edmunds.com website, you'll see which ones are at which dealerships in a 200 mile radius real-time. That's what I used to get dealers to compete against one another.
Think you need to check the figures again. A Trail version no longer exists. You can select the TRD Off Road model, with an MSRP of $37,335. Then add TRD Skid Plate for $399, the TRD Suspension Kit for $2199, 20" Black Gunner w/Nitto Terra Grapple tires/wheels for $2399, for a grand total of $43,302.
Or you could buy the TRD Pro, which includes all those options and more, for $42,400 MSRP. Then consider I paid $4100 BELOW MSRP, or $38,300. That's $965 LESS than the MSRP of the TRD Off Road version with no options!
I'll also suggest you take a peek at the resale of the various versions. I really didn't pay more for it initially, but it'll be worth more when/if I ever trade it in or sell it.
I never pay MSRP. I walk away from deals that don't work for me. I have no problem purchasing a vehicle from another state, and having it shipped to me. That's how I saved over $8K on my F150.
If anyone wants contact information for the two dealerships I received discounts from, let me know. You can likely buy it online, pay the shipping fee, and save thousands if your local dealers aren't willing to negotiate.

LOL! Guys..you in CA that are paying msrp + 3-6k markup should start a resell business and take up this guy on his offer.
Not calling BS at all as deals are different all over but $4100 below msrp is below invoice and it's a known fact Toyota doesn't incentivize 4runners. So, congrats on the great deal!
Most here can usually expect invoice or within a few hundred for non-pro models.
Also, your dealership msrp numbers for the wheels, shocks and skid plate can be beat by long shot and if a guy is smart, with better aftermarket equipment for less. Not knocking the pro owners, especially for those scoring them for less than my trail premiums invoice.:third:

I'm not sure why you are attacking my common sense. Whatever makes you feel better about your purchase that suited your needs I am ok with. But, it's hard to argue that most of the dealer options are bullshit. You can question my common sense if I bought the iPhone connectivity kit lol

SR5 owners say "a stock SR5 will take you places you'll be too scared to go anyway."
Trail owners say "Aftermarket lockers are sub-par, plus KDSS will fail anyway."
Trail w/KDSS owners say "Non-KDSS T4Rs are dangerous to drive on mountain twists as fast as I can drive mine with KDSS. It's pretty much a safety necessity."
Pro owners say "I don't even have to modify my rig now and it'll be a museum piece one day."

The truth is that most of these trucks only seldom get driven off pavement to begin with, and will get traded in before the financing is paid off for the next cool thing. It's okay to say "cuz I can" sometimes. :usa:
I bought my Certified Pre-Owned '14 Trail last year because the wheels look way better than the SR5 mini-van wheels, the hood scoop looks cool, and the seats are allegedly waterproof or something. I've verified that the locker works, but never really needed it, though I've used 4x4 in the snow, and the KDSS does, in fact, really help for twisty road driving.
Around here most dealers are stocked with 80-90% 2WD 4Runners so those of you with oodles of 4x4 options are doing well.

Ever since I've started lurking here I noticed there's always been some envy/hate towards Pro owners. Which doesn't make any sense because this is a forum for all 4runners and to me, it should be one big happy helpful family. For the most part it is, but there's still some animosity towards Pro owners. Shoot, I originally wanted a Trail/TRD-Off-road premium Nautical Blue, but figured why not just get a Pro since I was wanting the grill, add wheels and tires, and then get the silver bumpers vinyl wrapped. Then I figured it's only a couple thousand more for the Pro and those additions don't increase the value of it and I'm currently dealing with a knock off on my trade for having a bunch of aftermarket add ons. Everyone has their own preferences. I don't think I'm better than an SR5, I mean the Limited is more money than the Pro, so shouldn't we all have anger towards them? : jk

Some people just really don't have anything better to do but be concerned and waste breath on other peoples choices that have no impact on them whatsoever. It makes them feel better about themselves. Thats life.. Buy what you want to buy, drive what you want to drive and don't worry about anyones opinion.
