Lamin-X Fog Light Lens Covers

After installing the lamin-x film, the factory fogs light bulbs were even less effective. :frusty:

Today I installed the Philips 12834UNIX2 X-tremeVision LED Fog Light kit.

They're a little pricey, but a nice and noticeable improvement.

I think I may have to adjust them after I have had a chance to use them in the real world...

I installed the DDM Tuning 50w H11 into my fogs. The where going to be for my low beams, but they didn't fit. They are amazingly bright. I haven't been getting flashed but I also only use them on the highway. In town they are mainly off.

I have been thinking of adding the laminx film but I'll on the fence.

Has anyone used it with a high powered LED?

If I don't like the film, can the film be easily removed?

I bought the Lamin-X yellow film also and haven't installed them because I'm on the fence as well and mostly because I don't know if they are a pain to remove if I don't like them. I imagine a heat gun would do the trick but I don't have any experience with them.

Lamin-X says use heat (hair dryer) to help remove their films followed by the use of adhesive remover, if necessary.

If you are keeping the factory bulbs, be prepared to be disappointed.

A brighter bulb is absolutely necessary (with or without lamin-x, IMHO) otherwise they are merely a fashion statement.

They look pretty cool, and with the mild so cal weather, I can probably get away with them not being very practical. I'm just afraid they'll look a bit cheesy with oem bulbs. Replacing the bulbs will probably be the solution as I have way to many things to do to the 4R before I spend $400 on some Baja Design fogs.

From what I read, using 50w in a small housing like the 5G fogs will cause them to overheat and lost a significant portion of their lifespan. 35w was always recommended.

I purchased the Morimoto Oval projectors, 5500K LED's, that come with the LaminX film from TRS that will give them high lumen 3000K. I'll post before and after photos when I get them installed next week/weekend.

Too early to say if they a worth a recommendation yet,

Definitely a noticeable improvement over the factory bulb.

Hope its OK to post this here...its a bit of a hijack but since you guys are working with the fog lights-

Yesterday I pulled my bumper and there was a plastic fog light cover on the back of the passenger side only, not the driver's side fog light.

My 2018 4Runner was bought new, off the truck.

Am I missing a cover? Does it even matter?

Installed a pair of yellow Lamin-X Protective Film Covers on my fog lights. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Any tips on the install? I'm getting ready to try the install again after messing up the initial set using the wet method?

I forgot to follow the directions while in a state of “mod delirium” ... and didn’t spray with water before applying film, do not do this, Lamin-x becomes very difficult to work with. Also did the Calais extremely bright yellow HIDs. Here see both fogs with Lamin-x, factory bulb passenger side , Calais on driver side.

I wouldnt buy pre-cut vinyl for mods like this. Buy a sheet of quality vinyl, cut to ~8.5 diameter (stock fog) and install the same. This gives you extra to replace once bugs or time have worn the old set. Got my sheet from rvinyl and have been more than satisfied with the quality. Dont expect the light to change much but the fog light itself will look great.

You are not. The passenger side inner fender has venting on it and that cover is designed to keep garbage from working through the venting and hitting the back of the fog bulb or connector.
