Can somebody please give me the Toyota P/N for the larger 4.0 oil filter?
I know there has been threads on this before, but they were confusing for me to read (of I'm just a dumba$$! lol), and did'nt give me a straight answer.

Thanks!

These two threads have the most to spite much duplication between them...

The short answer to your question is the V8 filter, part # 90915-YZZD3. I ordered some of the foreign market -20004's and love them http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/parts/toyota_filter/

The source I used for the -20004's is Dan @ American Toyota 800-432-6668.

What is the height (in inches) of the V8 filter?

I did a Fram(don't worry, I use K&N; Fram is just for search) cross refrence. The V8 filter you showed me is the same height as the stock filter(3.34'';PH3614). I found in the threads, a filter that has a height of 4.92''(PH3600]. Is the PH3600 comparable to the size of the filter # you gave me?

Thanks alot in advance!

I don't know the specific dimensions. If you scroll way down on this thread you'll see a pic of the V6 and V8 filter next to a Coke can (all in the same pic). Sorry I can't better than that...

Ok, I think I figured it out. I have the K&N HP-1002 on it now. I took the thread dimensions and such from the HP-1002, and the p/n from the Fram PH 3600. What I found was the K&N HP-2009. It is 5.14'' tall and has all of the same dimensions as the HP-1002 and the stock filter. If you look at the Filter you can see how massive it is compared to the stock filter.

Funny,

I got a coupon for a $3.95 oil filter so I went to the dealer and I got the long V8 (YZZD3) filter without even asking for it. To be honest Ive been using Pure One since I got it so I forgot all about the 2 different filters, but it was a nice surprise :D

That's cool, the HP-2009 will probably do well for you... The bigger the filter the better assuming all other stuff is there (anti-drainback valve, correct bypass valve pressure etc).

Well, if you look at their specs, they are all the same (except for height). So, next time i'm ging to use this filter. And all K&N filters have an anti-drainback valve.

:D
Thanks to all!

I did read the specs and saw that...That parenthetical point in my post was more for those who are nearly as detailed and thorough as we are:D:lmao:

I use a Fram Tough Guard 3980. The Tough Guard is actually a pretty decent filter, and the 3980 is even bigger than the Toyota filter for the V8 and like twice the height of the miniscule 3614.

So far so good.

wen i get my oil change at dealer, i supply the oil, mobil 1 5w30, and they have been giving me the Toyota OEM - 90915-YZZD3 filter on my 4.0 v6 :)

As noted in there, K&N is really a relabeled Mobil1. M1 is cheaper, so get that instead. [/B]

I know that the K&N is the same as the Mobil1. The thing is that they are the same price ($12.99) at my AutoZone, Plus I love the nut that is on the end of the K&N.

Go here: http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/pub-share/pdf/appchart_oil_filters.pdf

This is what you need:
2003-08 V6 (1GRFE) 90915-YZZD3

See, when I put that P/N into a Fram cross refrence, I get the same Frap filter that I would get if I put the D1's P/N.

I looked at that thread. I took a tape measure with me to AutoZone. The K&N is a inch higher than the D3 filter in that thread. So, YAY! :bigok:

If you really want a bad ass filter you should check out the 90915-20004, which is the Japanese Denso OEM that come with the truck from the factory, much better than the Thai Denso that the stealers sell. Im trying to source them, and the cheapest is $14.95 from here, which considering the price of a K&N isnt that bad.

I put that P/N in both Fram and K&N and got the stock size filter.

I'm not going to get a Toyota oil filter because the closest Yota dealer is 35 mins away from me and there is no need to buy them online. Thats silly when I can drive 5 mins to my AutoZone and pick up oil and a filter in the same place. It makes everything eaiser.

I don't know about your dealership, but mine will sell me the OEM filters for $4.10 each, if I buy at least 3 of them. That's about what they cost online and I don't have to pay shipping if I buy locally. So... I pay about $13 with tax for 3 filters (the quality of which I am pleased with) and you pay about the same for one? I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money, but I would at least consider using an OEM filter. Plus, the dealership is 3 miles from my house. :)

I get my filters online from either Sunnyside or Partznet and I've always just specified the v6 and I have always gotten the D3 filter.
