Not with modern headlights.
The reason for the stair-step cutoff line is that it effectively lowers the beam path for oncoming traffic while providing longer throw in front of your vehicle.
You can see very clearly what Toyota wants you to do. Both lights along the same horizontal plane.
If you really want to get into it, there are other sites that talk about different beam patterns.

And you can see that even for headlights that both throw the same symmetrical pattern, the approach isn't one headlight lower than the other, it's moving the hotspot off center.
Same site you can see he has measurements for when to lower 2" (up to 34.5"), 2.5" (35"-39"), and 3.0 (over 39" from ground). But when I did a bunch more research I found no consistency in what was recommended - it's all internet lore.
The only thing that is consistent is having the headlights at the same level.

Here’s another thing to be aware of with LED drop ins. Some of them with cooling fans create noise on the ground of the Skid Control ECU and kick off ABS/VSC errors.
DTC C0226, C0236, C0246 and C0256.

That's from a 4th Gen forum. Are the 5th gens also having problems??

Apparently a lot of 5th Gens too. That Tech Tip refers to 2014-2020 models. Bad electronic designs in cheap light assemblies can throw off a lot of EMI and ground noise.

I searched and found this user on the forum who had the same problem on a 5th Gen.
ABS, Brake, Slip-Indicator and blinking Multi-Terrain Trouble
He switched from the LED headlights back to halogens to clear the problem. Then eventually got a replacement LED driver from the vendor that apparently was the noisy culprit.

I have had zero problems with my Lasfit custom 4Runner LED headlights. No ABS failures, no nothing. Just really good headlight action. I have not changed any other lights.
Nope. I just have the low beams. Haven't had the desire or a reason to do anything else.
Year 1 recap:
- Still have not been flashed once. Literally not once.
- No oncoming cars have been sent into a ditch or innocent woman and
children killed
- Still an LED bulb in a halogen housing
- Still loving the output and driving at night with them is great
- Still haven't hit any deer
- No codes thrown
- No failures and they are always on even during the day
- Still haven't read that thread on TacomaWorld

Probably. I've been meaning to send them back to them for inspection but havnt gotten around to it. If i didnt catch it as quickly as i did there would have for sure been a fire

Not sure if Toyotas do this, but on the global platform Range Rover L322, the headlights have a switch you can flip to either have the driver side “cut down” or a straight line cutoff.
I verified and found a video that showed the other setting was indeed a straight line, and did not simply “flip the dip” to the other side. Is the asymmetrical dip US-only?
Fast forward to 7 minutes, interesting! Can we do this on 4Runners?

Wow I knew these bulbs were just as bad as any junky LED H11 bulb on Alibaba but holy smokes I did not realize how much they were charging people for them. $538?! You can get properly designed BI LED projectors for less than that.
I really hope prospective buyers do their research and cut through the misinformation on this thread about this being a good solution. Or at the very least hop on Alibaba and pick up a similar bulb for $20 and get the same result.
