Last minute flagpole knob va trip

ya threw a wrench in my whole weekend i was supposed to be picking up my scatter gun tomorrow morning :hunter:
at hotel now i wont be home until tomorrow around noon so im still def out sorry to bail but not much of choice anyone done shoe creek and want to plan on a day trip there ? getting cold for camping

Yeah man I just lifted my runner in June, haven't done a whole lot of trails but I'm trying to build up my rig and gain some experience. I've done a few trails around here but never flagpole. Hit me up or shoe creak though

Next time the Off Camber Crawlers (our 4 wheeling club) has an open run I'll be sure and let you know. Since your local it would be easy for you to make a run with us.

Heck yeah man, thanks. I have ZERO people around here to get into wheelin with so that'd be cool. I wana get a little experience under my belt. In the mean time im working on lifting this puppy up a lil. Great weather out there today so i'm sure you all will have a good time. I'll be stuck here at this desk :redbrick: waiting for pics !

Home safe and sound.

Met up with Jay and his friend Hayden (hope I spelled it right) at the Harrisonburg Sheetz. After the meet and greet we headed out for Flag Pole Knob at the George Washington National Forest.

We stopped at Spitzer Lake to air down (in this case 18 PSI due to dry conditions), and continued up the long road to Flag Pole Knob. The weather was a perfect fall day. Clear with temperatures around 50 degrees.

We also met up with another T4R member - Hakeem at Meadow Knob. Nice meeting with you! Can't wait to see what you do with your 4Runner build.

(The trail here is a LOT steeper than the picture makes it - bad photography on my part)

Enjoyed meeting and wheeling with you all. Those that missed it - we can always plan another run.

(By the way - gas prices at the Sheetz in Harrisonburg VA - $2.90 a gallon!) BONUS!

Holy cow dude, we live in the same town and I honestly think I saw your runner at martins today. I was in a camry and I pointed your runner out to my friend lol. I just did this trail last saturday in my 1st gen, its pretty awesome!

Jay - I'd wheel with you guys again anytime. You're a natural, and you have a natural instinct for off roading.

Just say when again, and we'll be there. You've got to head back up to the mountain when it has snow on it. Now that's a lot of fun!

Lol nice, if yal wheel around here again or know some cool spots let me know, I'd like to tag along in my 89. I'm up at flag pole knob a lot, and I never knew that's what the trail was called lol. We always called it the switzer lake trail

I was up there this past weekend. We got there Saturday after lunch, rode the trails until well after dark, set
up camp, then rode all day Saturday.

I hadn't seen this thread till now.
I'll have to post up when I get ready to go back.

I've driven to Oklahoma City for breakfast, so this was just a hop,skip, and jump. :bluejump:


NC has alomst nada for public trails. One can do every trail at Uwharrie in a single day. The unimproved roads(see pics below), are getting fewer and further between. I was looking for a weekend away, and CO,NM, and WY were a little farther than I could muster on a weekend.

I'm meeting a couple of friends tonight for some cold tasty beverages and to plan a trip up there in the beginning of January. I'm hoping to get some suggestions from locals(like maybe somebody who's wheeled there since they got their license) for some trails a little more technical than Flagpole, Union, Long Trail....hint hint :cheers:

lol well with a truck that nice I guess I don't blame you for going places. I'm very very familiar with flagpole and the ones you mentioned, I'm still finding new trails out here so If you come up here in January hopefully I'll know a few more good ones and let you know about them, and maybe even wheel a couple of them with ya.

Question for the locals. I see on the Motor Vehicle Use Maps that many of the roads appear to be seasonal, and close after the 10th (this Friday). Is that accurate?

Not sure which ones you're looking at, but some of them do close during parts of the year, especially after hunting season. Specifically, I think that Second Mountain closes pretty regularly. Even if the forest service doesn't close their gate, the locals who live at the bottom have added their own gate.

Most of them are just dirt roads that remain open all year.
