LawnDart's Build Thread

I said my truck is a little fat, I don't need a mog...I'm not trying to haul your MOM around.

A few more tweaks in the rig:

After FJ Summit I'll be at CBI swapping from the single swing out bumper, to the dual swing out bumper. So I'll be adding the camp light option as well.

Swapping my mirrors out to the blind spot ones from a RAV4.

Truck comes back from the body shop this week or next, and then we're doing some mechanical work: RCI Fuel Tank skid, OME 0987 springs due to the added weight of the cargo system, cutting off the tailpipe and replacing it with a 90 degree bended version to avoid repeated crushing, and rock lights.

LawnDart you in SLC right now? Pretty sure we just drove past each other in town. Was in a lightly modified white TEP.

If so, your truck is much more impressive in person than online!

Hey. Yeah that's me. I'm literally chilling in Liberty park waiting for a pair of FJCs to join me to convoy out to Ouray for FJ Summit X.

Sorry I didn't wave.

After FJ Summit were doing:
-CBI dual swing arm bumper and camp light install
-swapping my upper control arms to the icon billet ones, because bling
-icon upper links. See above.
-magnaflow side pipe exhaust. Because I need the side pipe to give better departure angles and because it sounds rad!

Decided to nix the rock lights. I don't crawl at night and I think I can accomplish the same thing with something better.

You don't think a side exit before the rear tire will get smashed?

Why not just run a down dump? It will be loud and resonate off the ground but would allow you a higher exit location.... And or you can run it as a side dump out the rear through the side plate of the bumper.... Not sure how that looks under a 5th gen, that's what I did on my 80.

I suppose I could always do the magnaflow and just do a down dump.

Or I could just keep the stock exhaust and just do side bend. Thoughts?

I'll try to grab a shot later of my 80.

Basically look behind the rear tire and see if you could run it high and out the side behind the rear tire if you were to cut a hole in the rear side plate of the bumper...

Having the exhaust tip flush with the side skirt of the bumper would keep it fully protected, up high and behind the wheel for safety (less chance of fumes inside the cab)

Grab me a photo for sure.

It's surprisingly close to a down dump at stock. I'd like to see what you've got trail-ammo.

I've wanted to put mine to the side because I love driving with the rear window down,
but no matter how I look at it, I'm going to lose departure, and I really don't want it getting crushed or worse.

The icon UCAs and links are indeed sexy. The rear bumper is going to be sweet!!

Yeah I crushed the shit out of my pipe at Moab. So I need to either do a side dump or a better down dump. Cutting a hole in the side might be doable. I'll see CBI this week at FJ Summit. And if my new bumper hasn't been powder coated yet I can ask them about making a one with a hole before they powder coat it.

I love my single swing arm but I'll be honest I love Cbi but they're not good at communicating their build options. They don't even list the dual swing arm on their site. And the dual let's you open it easier and it takes up half the space behind you which is critical for urban parking spots.

If they did the gas piston assist like SSO and the multiple locking points at 90 and 135 degrees like SLEE I'd say it'd be beyond perfect.

You're just the person to help them along.

I've seen several photos of crushed stock tips....
A hole in the side of the bumper could be the ticket! I'd really like to see that.

I used to make some for jeeps and I tried to get the gas piston to work for extended periods but they always seemed to wear out.
As for the locking points that should be a 15 minute add on. just get them to cut a semi circle and drill holes in it. Then weld a spring pin to the arm.

What an incredible build!!! I just burned an hour and a half reading everything and taking notes.

I think you may be worse than me; I did the same thing on my last Harley build and 3 years later I am still saying "one more thing"! LOL

I'll be watching for you in P-town, I know you will be hard to miss!

cbi recommends not using the hole in the bumper for exhaust.

they used to do it but the exhaust heat helped the powder coat come of faster.
but its always customers choice.

also if your doing a dual swing out make sure they measure twice for the lift gate clearances.

Here is what I did on my 4X4 LABS bumper on my 80 Series.

You're have to look at the bumper in question on your own rig to see if the exhaust could be routed through in a similar fashion...

I've even considered running it over the frame rail and straight out the side about mid body line... But again this is on my "trail rig" much harder to cut into new rigs like ours...

I have had this in my head for a long time, cool to see it visually! LawnDart, I approve this method :thumb3:
