LawnDart's Build Thread

Great build, surprised I have never seen you, I work downtown and frequent your area of town. Always on the lookout for modded Toyota's.

I don't park or drive downtown if I don't have to. But you can occasionally see me around the pearl district.

And post pictures that make me tend to spend more money!

SORRY!

So little update. All our parts are in, Walt is prepped, and next week I'm doing the long 1400 mile trip down to TAV LLC in New Mexico.

It'll be there for 2 weeks of tuning, tweaking, and whatnot. Then we need to break in the new gears. After which I'll be driving Route 66 back to Los Angeles, meeting up with some filmmaker friends, probably gotta hoon it up in the Los Angeles viaducts, then finally swing north to take the PCH/101 all the way home. Long long long drive, but it'll give me time to get everything shaken out in the system.

Anyways, here's some parts porn:

King 2.5 Coilovers and Triple Bypasses (these were custom tuned/valved for our weight application):

The LT items punch well above my weight class, but I am confident you are going to love those tires!

So how many organs did you have to sell? lol
I will be interested in hearing how those tires behave in rain and snow. Enjoy. Look forward to seeing it.

No organs. But I'll be eating top ramen for a while.

Tires should be great. I've heard far better in the rain and snow. But since winter is coming...

Let me know when your in the Ventura area north of LA. I'd love to meet and maybe grab a meal together. One of the most inspiring rigs on here for me.

Definitely looking forward to a thorough review of those tires after this winter. Looking to replace my Toyo's this Spring if they finish production of those sizes that are "coming soon" on their website.

I'm really eager to see how they do as well. Especially since I want to do more commutes to Bend, Oregon, which will require decent tires in the snow.

Word is these are FAR better than their M/T equivalent.

Then with that schedule, it looks like you will miss that off-road expo in Pomona, October 1-2.

Did I mention the Off-Road Expo here or on another thread? Just trying to remember if I did or didn't.

Basically what it came down to is that 2 weeks back Walt and I discussed and unless the truck was in New Mexico 2nd week of September, if all the parts were there 2nd week of September...we'd still be so rushed that while the truck would LOOK complete, we wouldn't feel good about rushing just to make the show.

Total Chaos wanted to have the 4Runner in their booth, which would have been cool. And frankly the person that would have benefited the most from that is Walt/TAV LLC. And Walt was the one who said, frankly, "I don't want to show this off incomplete or improperly tuned just to have it in the show. It's my name on the work, and I'm known for tip to tail expedition builds, not show cars."

And once we realized that we weren't going to make Pomona, a weight lifted off our shoulders. All our parts are in, he has to finish a long travel Gen 3 Tacoma and an FJ Cruiser so he can clear out his lift to begin working on mine. It'll be there a week from monday. Any parts TCF or Currie didn't send us, he can have the next day, i.e any little gussets or whatnot.

The other challenge is with the Nitro gears they have a break in period. So I can't just get the vehicle back and blast home to Oregon. I actually budgeted 3 days of doing light, 25 mile at a time driving, allowing for a cool down, more 25 mile driving, etc, so we can do 500 miles in and around ABQ. Then we do a diff fluid swap, make sure there's no metal shavings, new fluid, then we'll take the wheels off, and recheck that everything is looking good before I drive back along route 66 to CA and up to Oregon.

But long story short, we opted to spend more time on the build, then rushing just to show it off.

So this is the kind of cool stuff I could be doing if I didn't have kids... (and too many expensive hobbies)

Lol, you and me both.

Hey, if you need someone to drive it around, I would be willing to help!

Just off the charts this build is. I'm hoping to catch you (and your 4runner) before you head back North so I can check it out.

I'll just be driving around ABQ throwing pizzas on Walter Whites roof. Hit me up. I'll e there for 2-3 days at least. And yes I will be visiting breaking bad locations.

Wives get in the way at this level of cost and complexity as well, I'll keep my wife and my toytec kit, but sure is nice to drool over this thread.
