Modest Mods:

I rely on the DeLorme inReach for when I travel to SE Oregon, where cell service sucks, as well as for acting as a GPS receiver for trail/general nav.

The default mount uses a suction cup. Never again I say. I'm tired of them falling off during a temperature change. So I wanted to use a RAM mount of some kind.

Turns out the square base 1" ball mount fits PERFECTLY on the right part of the radio. I didn't want to drill it out like my other trim pieces, as if I wanted to revert it that whole unit (which you can't get separately) is 4000 dollars. Absolutely insane. Some Gorilla Tape worked perfectly:

I used the adhesive round base RamMounts for my CB and phone (nexus 6 for size comparison), and they've held up for on road use for the past month and a half, and this past weekend while off-roading. I bet it will be good. Plus, carry some extra and if it pops loose -- hit it again.

Yeah I cleaned both surfaces with denatured alcohol. The plastic seems like it'll bend before anything else.

Also to remove it the trick is to use dental floss to saw it off without damaging anything. Same technique works on go pro mounts.

I used a piece of fishing line and a heat gun and it came right off. But no way would it have pulled off! You should be set for many many years!

The 3m stuff just wasn't holding well. The gorilla tape is just insanely strong stuff and does better in a hot cabin. So far it's been doing great.

Lawn I know you're last pic was having to do with your interior electronic installs but I really appreciated the last one you posted b/c I can see your rear view mirror view. Planning on getting that CBI bumper and well I did the RAV4 mirror mod earlier on your build and on weeee's. But I can definitely see the challenge. Speaking of which have you had any other difficulty b/c of this in city driving just curious? I'll have to sit down after and follow the camera re-route ya did. Anyways thanks!

Well, if you're asking if the visibility sucks it does in fact suck. It's a combination of the 35" spare and the ARB fridge. I get a small sliver of visibility, but you get used to using your mirrors a lot more.

Even relocating the backup camera only helps so much because remember your spare tire sticks out like 10-12" past the camera. So you have to be hyper aware of how big your vehicle is so you don't crush your truck against a wall. I almost always park back in first, because I've smashed my flip up license plate a few times on the front. I'll try to get a good photo of the visibility from the drivers perspective.

Question on your fender flares...Are those just OEM flares that are unfinished/not-painted? I'm removing my BW flares and reverting back to OEM and was looking at purchasing a set of OEM and I understand they are unfinished just curious if they look like yours..Color-wise?

They're a dark gray, I just have a matte clear bra over them to protect them from UV and damage.

Also, progress! They're off to paint and line-x, and then come back for being plumbed and wired.

Yep, they use huck bolts so no welds to crack or fail.

Modest Mods 02:

Modest Mods 02: I got tired of nearly killing myself on the CBI bumper when it was raining or snowy. Grip tape is a wonderful thing. Plus it covers up a few chips in the powder coat!

Got in to FJ Summit, and finalized the last of the major upgrades for the truck, and then moving on to the trailer.

Truck: I'm heading to Goose Gear on May 7th, after stopping by Overland Bound to crash with them. For 2-3 days we'll be doing our seat delete and platform that replaces the rear middle/right seats. We're also doing another Odyssey group 31 battery in a national luna power pack:


That'll go under the seat delete platform.

As for the trailer: We're expecting it to ship the week of the 17th, so to us before end of April and we'll scramble to get it built in time for a shake down before Overland Expo West.

I decided to go with the Alu-Cab tent (in black) because of the space it offers and how fast it is to open and close at camp. We're going with 3x Nitto 35/12.50R17s (one as a tailgate mounted spare) on matte black VTX Offroad Terra wheels. And the trailer's 3 main sides are getting wrapped in Multicam Black.

Should be an awesome camping setup!

I've been very happy with the NL PP and I run it in my cargo bay with amongst others, a solar charge controller wired to the aux battery and the NL PPP does a great job effectively charging both batteries when needed.

More Importantly, the great generosity of OB being your host, we all would expect to see a rig walk around video show up on YouTube sometime after..if not, that just wouldn't be right...
