LawnDart's Build Thread

Removing the rear seats middle/right seats tomorrow in prep for Goose Gear, but truck is as dialed as I can before I go south. Next week expect lots of trailer photos. As soon as it rolls off the truck we strip it down for the camo wrap, then it comes back, we put it back together and start mounting stuff and dialing it in.

After Expo we'll be swapping the Rigids out for Baja S2 Sports and a few other details.

Idk maybe it's just the angle or something but your driver side camber seems to be visibly off compared to the passenger side. I remember you posted recently about how much of a b*%#h aligning the LT set up was. Just wondering if the negative camber is actually there or a fiction of imagination?

Hey man, I've been following your rig and all i can say is "F...ing WOW". Truly an inspiration! I wish i have the money to go for a long travel set up.

That being said, before you went the LT route, your gears were stock with the icon set up? Did you re-gear only after the LT? Thanks for this whole tread man! Keep the good work! And i love your photography, (i'm an amateur at best!).

The 285/70/17s didn't really require a re-gear. But going to 35s did, which is when I went with the 4.88s.

So that photo is a bit weird in that it's in an old industrial dock down near where I live, and the hill I put the truck on kinda slants to the driver side a bit.

Just went and snapped that for you. The alignment and adjusting camber is an absolute *****, and you have way less margin to play around with in setting camber. I'd say we're within 0.5 degrees of perfection, but because the suspension is so soft the truck is really hard to get sitting dead level unless you're on a perfectly flat surface, and even our 2 story garage is not.

I've thrown up some lines in photoshop to show what I'm talking about. I basically used the back of the garage's horizon to use as level, and I confirmed that with my industrial grade laser leveler.

In the photo I realize I'm also like 3/4-1" too far to the right to be absolutely dead nuts facing forward.

Aww I feel so honored [emoji4]. But I see what you mean now. That's interesting that the suspension is so soft that it never really settles to a set spot. Thanks!

It's definitely sitting at an angle in the photo I posted on that ramp. I could futz with the camber all day at an alignment shop but this is what I and the shop ultimately we're happy with looking at the Mk.1 Eye Ball and what the computer told us.

I'm professionally OCD, so having the truck and camber exact is kinda of my jam, but again the truck will never sit EXACTLY perfect because the ground it's on, the amount of gas in the tank, etc all affect i.t

words of wisdom. I wish I had known that a few alignment appointments back...lol

Admittedly my truck leaned bad after the LT. I think my passenger side coil over is about 1/2" of exposed thread, whereas my driver side is 2" to level it off.

The stronger springs in the rear helped combat a lot of side to side lean which allowed us to bring the driver side coil over down a bit more.

We did the leveling with a full tank of gas, but it's a truck that is on soft suspension, carrying a TON of extra weight (that's literal and not a euphemism).

Part of this experience has been that chasing perfection just ends up leading to being unhappy.

Was wondering if you had any insight on your HAM setup so far?

I just passed my tests, and will be looking to put a system in my runner this summer.

I love my setup, if I have any complaints about the Yaesu is that even with the screen backlight turned way down it's still distractingly bright at night.

Love the build- absolute beast of a rig. If you were to start completely over from your stock pro what would you change? Would you still go LT?

In this picture and the previous one before it, I just noticed some sort of channel rubber or some sorts between your lights and your bumper. Is that correct? Is that to prevent damage to either or when you have some flex on your bumper?

Pelfrey now includes it just to provide a bit of finish on that section under the headlights for aesthetics sake, to give it a little more uniformity.

I've never had the bumper contact my lights even when I bashed the bottom of it up into a rock in Moab.

So awesome. Can't wait to see what you do to it!!!

Thanks. Our tires showed up today. We just need a 3rd for the spare tire.

Otherwise we have everything we need. Trailer should be here thursday/friday.

We then have to tear it apart, fenders, tire carrier, latches, lights, to do our Multicam Black wrap. Then it comes back and we have to mount a bunch of other bits, get the tent on, etc. I'd love to take it on a shake down run up the columbia river gorge just to get a feel for it, tune the trailer brakes, etc.

LawnDart Do these trailers come configured for a 7-pin electrical/brake connection? And if so, are you going to install an auxiliary trailer brake controller if you haven't done so already?
