LBJ cotter pin

I installed my new LBJ's, and the holes in teh studs for the cotter pins at proper torque are exactly in the middle of one of the castellations. Is it better to overtorque the nut to get the pin in, or under torque it?

I don't really like either solution, as both the LBJ stud and the the LCA are hardened, so the nut is taking all the strain.

I did both of mine and have the same issue as you so I over torque mine.
I think by over torque I feel safer then under torque. Anyone else can shine in.

Mine lined up on the money from what I remember. I torqued them to 105ft lbs. I would think it's best to over torque than loosen them but it would depend on how much over you need.

Overtorque it until the holes line up.

Some member (can't remember) said that on AllData it said to do such. No problems in two years here.

I just did both sides, and the driver's side I ran into this problem. I reused to old one because it lined up better than the new one. The passenger side I used the new one because it lined up perfectly.
