LBJ Grease Zerk

So I just did my LBJ's for good measure at around 128k. I used OEM as the gold standard.

I did notice the OEM's have a bolt (see below, bolt to right of word "here").

I asked my mech about this and he said this is a point where you can install a grease zerk. Has anyone done that?

Also, after this project I then saw these on toytech! Doh...I know OEM is the standard but these look pretty good to me as does everything toytech makes...and grease zerk included!

Those SPC ball joints that ToyTec sells are replacements for the SPC/Light Racing upper control arms- they won't work with stock UCA, and aren't for the lowers at all [emoji1360]
Interesting; I didn't notice a spot for a zerk on the OEM LBJ's I just put on. Maybe I overlooked them. That does sound familiar though; I think I've heard of guys putting zerks there.
Edit- that's not the new LBJ, is it? It looks like raw cast vs the OEM black painted units.

Ah, I wondered on those SPC's. Okay. Seemed too good to be true.

On those in the pic...yep OEM for sure. I ordered them through my mech and were $122.87 each so they better be OEM. I see why you think that though, the light and flash made them look that way but to the eye they are painted black. They do look pretty dirty though for only 400 some miles...

These are them: https://d354nuoz4t18d4.cloudfront.n...30cc1b878f2fc66ca23d90f6d03.jpg?cb=1482439386

But I may pursue this grease zerk thing...

Oh really? Interesting.
Maybe it's something that one of the OEM manufactures did, but another did not?
In this thread-

It appears the aftermarket LBJ he first installed had the zerk provision, while the assumed-to-be-OEM LBJ getting replaced did not have the provision...

Well I'm certainly going to double-check with my mech but again...based on the price and the fact that we talked a lot about that aspect, they should be (he agreed he always uses and buys OE on the ball joints and most other parts.) He's a pretty well know mech here in CO and works on a lot of the Rising Sun club guys' rigs.

But raw they were/are definitely black...not silver. Ugh, so much confusion on all this. I also find no 555 markings...

That ball joint does not look oem at all. But could be photo I guess.

OEM's are $88 each & do not come with zerks. Your mech bought "OEM" from his auto parts supplier & marked them up. Aftermarket LBJ's are only $40.
I think you got ganked!

Well I'm going to go discuss this with him. I'm shocked really because he's been really awesome, done a lot of quality work, saved me a lot of money, and again, he is really well known here in CO and works on a lot of other Rising Sun Club members vehicles (Runners and Cruisers.) So I just sent him an email to see what is going on and thank you all because it's certainly worth asking him about. I really do want OEM or nothing on there.

So what are these then? Maybe Napa type quality? I don't see the 555 marking. Hopefully not Moog? Anyone have a guess?

Also, if I want to go stronger but keep IFS...are there any other options? I've cruised the forums and I think the answer is no but let me know. I looked at Toytech and others and don't really see anything. The SPC/light setup is upper control arms and ball joints but see nothing for aftermarket/beefier lowers. This has been the one chink in the armor of the otherwise formidable 3rd gen that really bothers me.

Order them from Camelback, free shipping over $150, not sure if that includes Canada but even if you pay $20 shipping it'll be worth it.

Nah, they will no longer ship to Canada. Nor will T.Of.Dallas. I bought a lot this way a couple of years back but Toyota caught on and shut it down.

I have discovered that some Toyota dealers in Canada are cheaper than others. My local is expensive but I can save money ordering from Calgary area. It's worth calling around.

SAS is pretty much the only option. With new OEM LBJ's and poly bushings its a pretty good control arm. I have hit mine with rock and they are still fine. Im more worried about breaking a CV than anything else up front.

I just ordered them through Toyota parts direct Canada - ship out of Ontario they were around $140 each CAD, my local dealer down the street wanted $191 each + taxes and wouldn't even take my credit card # over the phone, wanted me to come in and pre pay....
